🚨 The situation surrounding André Onana at Manchester United has taken another dramatic twist.
According to reports, the Cameroonian goalkeeper personally requested a new contract yesterday, despite having already taken a 25% pay cut due to the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League this season. The pay reduction, a standard clause in United’s player contracts, has left Onana frustrated, as he believes his performances still merit improved terms.
Manager Ruben Amorim, however, was reportedly left unhappy with Onana’s approach. Sources close to the club suggest Amorim views the timing of the request as inappropriate, especially given United’s turbulent start to the season. With dressing room morale already under scrutiny, the manager is said to have felt that Onana’s demands added unnecessary tension at a critical stage of the campaign. Despite the friction, Manchester United made no attempt to place the goalkeeper on the transfer market.
AS Monaco briefly emerged as the only club showing genuine interest in Onana on deadline day. However, negotiations collapsed almost immediately after the Ligue 1 side were informed of United’s £30 million minimum asking price. The figure was deemed too steep by Monaco, especially for a player whose form has been inconsistent since his high-profile move from Inter Milan last summer.
The situation leaves Onana in a precarious position. While he remains first-choice at Old Trafford, questions continue to grow about his long-term future. His relationship with Amorim appears strained, and his market value could diminish further if he fails to deliver consistently in the coming weeks. For now, United are standing firm on their valuation, but the goalkeeper’s camp insists that discussions over a contract renewal must be revisited soon.
