Darwin Nunez has fuelled talk of him leaving Liverpool after he deleted every post on his Instagram of him playing for the Reds.
The Uruguayan moved to Anfield almost two years ago after a breakout season with Benfica, which saw a host of Europe’s major outfits eyeing him. He eventually headed to Liverpool in a deal worth £85million but hasn’t shown his quality regularly enough.
Nunez’s inconsistency has been held against him with the striker’s finishing becoming a major concern. He’s scored 33 times for Jurgen Klopp’s side but has fluffed his lines in numerous big games this term and, with a change of manager incoming, there is talk of a move away.
The 24-year-old has been the subject of criticism and has only aided the rumour mill by removing all pictures of himself playing for Liverpool on his Instagram. All that remains are family pictures and images of the striker playing for Benfica and Uruguay, although his profile picture is a snap of him playing in Liverpool colours.
Nunez has never been vocal about any desire to leave Merseyside but the new man in the dugout, expected to be Arne Slot, is likely to review his squad options and go from there. A number of major names at Liverpool, including Mohamed Salah, are due to have their futures reviewed.
Nunez and Salah are two of a number of strikers of the books at Anfield. Diogo Jota has regularly delivered when fit whilst Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have shown in flashes that they can produce.
The Uruguayan’s all round game has often been hailed but Jamie Carragher recently questioned whether it is time to seek a new source of firepower. He said on Sky Sports: “I think there is a question to ask. You want him to do well because there is so much that you like because he gives everything, he runs and causes trouble and gets the odd goal and gets an assist.

“But after two years when Liverpool this season are going to the title and those big games, you need your man to score away at Old Trafford, away at Goodison, in the European game at Atalanta. There is no time to waste, this is not October or November. This is the business end.
“In terms of Nunez and where the club go forward now, we have all been in squads where someone comes in and maybe you talk about the first year and maybe say, okay he’s getting up to speed with and he’s improving, and it looked like he was at
the start of the season. But it has ground to a halt.”
