Ederson slams ‘absurd’ Premier League decision as Man City star brands it ‘unacceptable’
Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has slammed a decision made by the Premier League in the final weeks of the season as ‘absurd’.
City are going for an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title and are in a strong position to claim it with only a few games remaining in the campaign.
Pep Guardiola’s side are currently one point behind Arsenal at the top of the table, but have one game in hand on their rivals – who themselves have just one game left in their season.

City’s penultimate match of the campaign comes away at Arsenal’s biggest rivals Tottenham in north London on Tuesday night.
Guardiola’s side head into the match on a formidable run of form, having won their last seven matches in the league.
Rodri has been key to City’s success in recent seasons and has once again played an integral role this season.

The Spain international is unbeaten in 48 consecutive matches in the league following Saturday’s 4-0 win over Fulham.
But he was surprisingly left out of the nominees for the Premier League Player of the Season last week.
His teammates Phil Foden and Erling Haaland were included, however, alongside Alexander Isak, Martin Odegaard, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Virgil van Dijk and Ollie Watkins.
Ederson has slammed the decision to omit Rodri, branding it ‘unacceptable’.

“I see Rodri as a great candidate who is not on the list. I don’t understand why… it’s unacceptable,” he told ESPN Brazil.
ADVERT
“If you look at his year, the campaign, the last few seasons… and he’s not on the list. It’s absurd, I don’t know what criteria they use to nominate players.
“There are big names running, but Rodri is a big candidate for the winner and unfortunately he is not on the list.”
Ederson is backing Foden to win the award this season after a hugely impressive season in which he has scored 25 goals in all competitions, including 17 in the league.
“I’m going to root for Phil to win. He has helped us a lot, he has scored goals and assists,” added Ederson.

An Arsenal fan claimed they cancelled one of the Manchester City team’s hotel reservations ahead of their Premier League clash with Tottenham.
Tottenham take on City on Tuesday, knowing that a draw or victory would put Arsenal in pole position to claim their first Premier League title in two decades with just one game remaining.
Mikel Arteta’s side are currently holding a one-point lead at the summit over reigning champions City, but have played a game more than City, who will reclaim the top spot with a victory over Spurs.
ADVERT
Arsenal fans are praying that City stumble against their north London rivals, and are doing all in their power to disrupt Pep Guardiola’s side ahead of the game.
Indeed, a contingent of Arsenal ultras donning ‘Ashburton Army’ hoodies and balaclavas filmed themselves letting off fireworks at 2am on Tuesday outside Delta Hotels Waltham Abbey in Essex, where they believed the City side was staying.
Meanwhile, an Arsenal fan on X shared a video in which he appeared to be cancelling the hotel reservation of City goalkeeping coach Richard Wright. You can view it below.

However, the Arsenal fans’ attempts to disrupt City’s preparation ahead of the game appear to have been in vain, with it having since been revealed that Guardiola’s men had not yet departed Manchester.

Ahead of Tuesday’s game Tottenham boss Postecoglou made his views clear on the prospect of Tottenham fans wanting City to win the game.
“I understand rivalry. I was part of one of the biggest ones in the world in the last couple of years with Celtic and Rangers,” the Spurs boss said.
“But I’ve never, and will never, understand if someone wants their own team to lose. That’s not what sport is about. It’s not what I love about the game.”
He added that “100 per cent of Spurs supporters” want his side to beat City, though acknowledged that “people are allowed to feel the way they do”.

Erling Haaland did not receive any votes in one of the most respected Player of the Year award votes and a possible explanation has been given.
Haaland leads the Premier League Golden Boot charts once again after scoring 25 goals in 28 appearances this term.
His four-goal haul against Wolves last weekend pulled him away from contenders Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins and Alexander Isak.
He still has three games to add to his tally but incredibly, it’s emerged that Haaland did not receive a single nomination in the recent Football Writers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year award.
ADVERT
The Norway international’s teammate Phil Foden scooped the prize after a stunning campaign, while Rodri came second and Arsenal’s Declan Rice completed the top three.
Haaland collected the gong last season after hitting 36 goals in a record-breaking debut campaign.

But there is a theory for why he was overlooked this time around. In Jack Gaughan’s latest ‘Man City Notebook’ column for the Daily Mail, he cites a source who believes that there is a narrative developing around the former Borussia Dortmund striker.
ADVERT
It’s claimed that former Manchester United captain-turned-pundit Roy Keane is a key driver of the idea that Haaland only scores goals after branding his general play as “that of a League Two player” following the 0-0 draw with Arsenal.
Keane also recently called Haaland a “spoilt brat” for his reaction after being subbed off against Wolves and there’s a view that his comments influence the way people judge the 23-year-old.

“It’s now a common story that Erling needs to score goals to justify his place,’ the source told the Daily Mail.
ADVERT
“His best game last season was against Arsenal, the title decider. He didn’t score until the last second and his hold up play killed them.”
Haaland is in contention for both the Premier League Player of the Season ad Young Player of the Season awards, though Rodri has surprisingly been omitted from the shortlist.

Pep Guardiola has been handed a huge boost for the Premier League title run-in, with a key player set to return from injury ahead of schedule.
The Premier League title race has had the entire nation on the edge of their seats, with Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool all fighting it out for English football’s biggest prize.
However, the hopes for a three-way title fight seem to have been crushed by Liverpool’s disastrous run of results, dropped points to Crystal Palace, West Ham and most notably Everton have seen Jurgen Klopp’s side fall out of contention for the title.
ADVERT
Arsenal currently sit top of the table but Pep Guardiola’s side could move clear if they win their game in hand, and they have received a massive injury boost at the perfect time.
Despite initial concern, it appears Ederson will return from injury before the end of the season despite initial concern from Guardiola.
The Brazilian sustained a shoulder injury during a challenge with Willy Boly in the first half of the Blues’ 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
ADVERT
He was eventually substituted at half-time due to the severity of the injury. He was seen leaving the City Ground with his arm in a sling, and Guardiola’s initial assessment was concerning, indicating that the injury “doesn’t look good.”
It is now being reported by the MEN, that Ederson could return for City’s clash with Fulham on the 11th of May, meaning the first-choice goalkeeper would only be sitting one match out.
It isn’t like City are particularly weak in between the sticks though, as reserve keeper Stefan Ortega has been excellent in his 17 deputising appearances so far this season.

Ortega is one of City’s biggest assets and would likely be first choice at most clubs in the country, but he has revealed he wouldn’t be opposed to moving elsewhere in the summer.
ADVERT
Speaking following City’s impressive 4-1 win against Aston Villa, Ortega spoke about where his future could lie.
“I’m not in the beginning of the 20s so I have to choose wisely now what I’m doing in summer. It’s not that I have to push the club that they will sell me, it’s just like see what happens. I’m relaxed because there are worse places than here,” he explained.
“My family and me are really happy here. My wife struggled a bit in the beginning but I think it’s normal to go in a different country. Now everyone is happy.”
“At the end it’s not my single decision, my [wife] is there as well, we’re expecting the second child,” Ortega added.

Phil Foden created Premier League history when he scored for Manchester City against Brentford on Monday evening.
City travelled to the Gtech Community Stadium knowing they had a great chance to make the most of Liverpool’s slip-up against Arsenal.
Jurgen Klopp’s side lost 3-1 to the Gunners on Sunday evening, and City took full advantage by beating Brentford by the same scoreline to move within two points of the Premier League leaders.
ADVERT
City fell behind in calamitous circumstances in the first half when Neal Maupay ran onto a long goal-kick before slotting past Ederson.
City took 16 shots in the first half before Phil Foden finally found a way past Mark Flekken, and in the second half the 23-year-old scored twice more to complete his hat-trick.
As well as singlehandedly carrying City, Foden earned himself a place in the history books when he glided into the penalty area to score his third goal of the night.
ADVERT
That composed strike – which came after Foden played a clever one-two with Erling Haaland – was the 45th scored in the current Premier League gameweek, more than ever before.
The previous record for the number of goals scored across one 10-game Premier League weekend was 44, set in September 2020. That tally was equalled at the start of May last season.
Foden was superb on the night both in his finishing and all-round play. The England international played in a central attacking midfield role which allowed him to ghost into dangerous areas in the centre of the penalty area.
The City academy graduate did exactly that shortly after half-time when he evaded the Brentford defenders and glanced a deft header into the corner of F
lekken’s goal.
ADVERT
City are now level on points with Arsenal and two behind Liverpool having played one game less than both.
The reigning champions have rarely been at their best this season, but they are now in the perfect position to defend their title once again.
