Josko Gvardiol has reportedly spoken to one of Manchester City’s transfer targets about potentially moving to the Etihad Stadium.

The defender only joined the Manchester club during the previous summer transfer window from RB Leipzig in a deal worth a reported fee of £77m.

 

 

Across his debut campaign, the 22-year-old has appeared in 40 games across all competitions, chipping in with five goals and two assists.

 

Even though City have two big games left to play before the season ends and the summer transfer window opens for business, games that could see them win another Premier League title and FA Cup, it has been reported that Gvardiol has reached out with one of his former teammates about potentially joining him in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

According to a recent report from Bild, Gvardiol has been in contact with RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo, who the Citizens have an interest in, over a possible move to Manchester this summer.

The report also adds that while neither the club nor Olmo’s representatives have been approached over a potential transfer this summer, Leipzig are expecting him to leave and are looking at potential replacements.

Last month, it was reported that City are one of the clubs interested in signing the Spaniard, who has a release clause in his contract worth €60m (£51m) this summer.

 

Gvardiol could boost City’s chances of signing Olmo

After scoring 34 goals and providing 28 assists in 124 senior appearances for Dinamo Zagreb, the 26-year-old joined Leipzig during the 2020 January transfer window.

 

Since then, Olmo has featured in 148 games for the German club across all competitions, finding the back of the net 29 times and supplying 34 assists.

 

Now that Gvardiol, who has played in 53 games with Olmo, has apparently spoken with the midfielder about a potential move to City, this could help the Blues secure a deal for him if that ends up being one of their priorities once the summer transfer window opens for business.
