Wayne Rooney and leads charge for overhaul of Manchester United

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has called for a significant overhaul of the team’s squad following their narrow 3-2 victory over Newcastle United. Speaking to Sky Sports, Rooney expressed his belief that United should build their team around key players like Bruno Fernandes while conducting a massive clearout over the next couple of years.

Despite a challenging season, Manchester United displayed glimpses of promise in their recent match against Newcastle. Individual performances stood out, with Casemiro excelling at centre-back and Sofyan Amrabat contributing to a solid defensive effort. The attacking trio of Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Bruno Fernandes also showed signs of potential.

Looking ahead, United will aim to carry this form into the highly anticipated FA Cup final against Manchester City on June 3rd. A victory in this crucial match would secure their spot in next season’s Europa League, providing a much-needed boost for the team and their fans.

In conclusion, while Wayne Rooney has been critical of the current state of Manchester United’s squad, there is still hope for improvement. With key players to build around and promising individual performances, the Red Devils will look to end their season on a high note and secure a place in European competition next year.

Manchester United duo Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial waved goodbye to Manchester United fans after Wednesday night’s 3-2 win over Newcastle.

Varane did not feature in the match due to injury while Martial was also absent from the squad due to a lack of fitness.

There’s expected to be a summer clear out at Manchester United, and French duo Varane and Martial will be part of those leaving.

Both men came out onto the pitch after the victory against Newcastle – United’s last home match of the season – to bid farewell to fans before they finally exit Old Trafford.

Varane joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 and will leave when his contract expires at the end of June.

Martial will also depart at the end of the season when his deal runs out having been at the club for nine years.

After bidding farewell to fans, Varane waited for Old Trafford to be empty out, before taking an emotional photo in the centre circle.

Manchester United duo tell goodbye to United fans

“Old Trafford, thank you,” Varane said on Instagram while United posted on X: “Once a Red, always a Red.”

Varane had earlier sent his own message to United fans this week: “It’s been an amazing few year to play for this special club and wearing that shirt.

“The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Manchester United player was insane; the atmosphere was amazing.

“I fell in love with the club, with the fans. You have to play for Man United to understand what that represents. For my kids, it’s home here. It’s going to be a special place for me for life.

“When the fans go to Wembley it’s something they remember for life. To share that moment with them [winning the Carabao Cup] was absolutely amazing.”

Farewell to Varane and Martial. All the best for the rest of your careers.
