Chido Obi sends clear reminder to Ruben Amorim after Manchester United decision.

The striker is yet to be included in a matchday squad for Manchester United so far this season after making eight appearances in 2024/25.

Manchester United youngster Chido Obi has sent a clear reminder of his quality to Ruben Amorim as he continued his rich vein of form in front of goal for the Under-21s. The striker has found it hard to break into the first team picture this season, having been on the fringes of Amorim’s squad towards the end of last season.

So far this season, the 17-year-old striker has not featured in a matchday squad for Amorim’s first team squad, returning to development squad action.

The teenager has played in all four of United’s Premier League 2 games. Having started the previous two games and scored in both, Obi was again in the starting lineup for the game against Liverpool U21s on Sunday.

With United 1-0 down heading towards half time, Obi got himself on the scoresheet before the interval. That goal started the comeback which was completed by full-back Jaydan Kamason in the 81st minute as United came out as 2-1 winners.

The latest goal should serve as a reminder to Amorim of what the teenager can do, especially given United’s strikers’ struggles so far this season.

Neither of United’s two recognised strikers, Benjamin Sesko or Joshua Zirkzee, has appeared on the scoresheet in any of their five Premier League games.

If Obi continues to score for the U21s, it could force Amorim to give the striker another opportunity in the first team. The youngster has been assigned squad number 32 for United this season, replacing the squad number 56 he wore last year.

The game against Liverpool also saw summer signing Diego Leon start for the first time for the club since making the move from Cerro Porteno in Paraguay back in July. The left-back played 45 minutes of the game as he continues his adaptation to English football.
