Pione Sisto had the world at his feet after tearing Manchester United apart and linking up with Real Madrid – but things didn’t go as planned

The now 28-year-old striker, who recently signed with Turkish midfielder Alanyaspor, has not played for the Danish national team since 2020. Perhaps the highlight of his career came during of Midtjylland’s 2015/16 Europa League, when he hit the headlines.

Scouts from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan and Juventus are believed to be watching the dynamic young striker in action as he scored home and away against United before Midtjylland were eliminated from the competition.

This European appearance came three years after he broke into Midtjylland’s first team after starting his career at Tjorring and attending their youth academy.

He scored 31 goals in his four full seasons at Midtjylland, with Celta Vigo winning the race to sign him for a fee in the region of £5 million. Despite showing glimpses of his abilities, he returned to Midtjylland with one year left on his five-year contract and scored a further 15 goals in 101 games.

Sisto joined Super Lig club Alanyaspor earlier this month as he looks to recreate his early season form, with Transfermarkt putting his current value at £1.75 million, it was once seven times higher.

His international career has also been disappointing, with one goal in 26 appearances and poor form at the 2018 World Cup.

Sisto declared himself “the most hated person in Denmark” for his performances and more recently revealed he was suffering from depression following the tournament.
