Bruno Fernandes has made his mind clear on his future at Manchester United
Latest Manchester United news and gossip with the transfer window set to open next week
Bruno Fernandes is a key player for Man United
Manchester United are preparing for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first summer transfer window since purchasing a stake in the club earlier this year.
As changes continue to take place behind the scenes, United must get their business right in the window. Talks will be held over the future of a number of players, Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood among them.
United finished eighth in the Premier League – their worst ever finish – but Erik ten Hag may have salvaged his job with an FA Cup final win over Manchester City. A review of the situation is still taking place and a decision is expected to come to light next week.
With that said, MEN Sport has taken a look at the latest United news and gossip that has been doing the rounds in the last 24 hours.
Man United’s Bruno Fernandes stance
According to the Guardian, serious offers for United skipper Bruno Fernandes would begin at £70million. However, the Portuguese is highly rated by Ratcliffe and described as the club’s ‘finest footballer,’ as per the reports, suggesting they will not want to lose him.
Although the midfielder is attracting interest from European clubs including Bayern Munich, there is said to be ‘no push’ to sell Fernandes. But if the Red Devils want to keep hold of their captain, they may need to improve his salary.
The 29-year-old is understood to be seeking a new deal that would put him among the club’s highest earners. A new salary would see him earn £300,000-a-week-plus, an improvement to the £220,000 he is currently thought to be on.
MEN Sport says: Manchester United really benefit from having a creative and influential player like Fernandes. The Portuguese’s ability to change a game is key for United and he has shown the leader he is on and off the pitch multiple times. As the captain, he is deserving of a salary increase, with teammate Casemiro believed to be earning more than Fernandes after his £70m move to Old Trafford.
United confident of completing first transfer
According to the Liverpool Echo, Jarrad Branthwaite’s omission from Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man England squad has left United confident of striking a deal for the Everton defender.
The Football Association have blocked clubs and agents from making contact with players over transfers during the European Championships. Branthwaite’s exclusion now makes him available for negotiations.
The report adds that United executives are hopeful they can finalise a deal for the 21-year-old before June 30. Everton, who are thought to value their star defender at around £75m, are facing a fight to keep hold of him.
MEN Sport says: If United want to strike a deal for Branthwaite it is important they try and get ahead of the competition as soon as possible, to avoid disappointment. The profile of Branthwaite suits what United are looking for and, while still only 21, he has Premier League experience and would be a good replacement for Raphael Varane.

Thomas Tuchel reportedly met with new Man United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe last week over potentially replacing manager Erik ten Hag.
United are currently reviewing Ten Hag’s standing at the club after what was a miserable campaign up until their FA Cup final triumph over Man City.
While Ten Hag has continuously grasped for the mitigation of a debilitating injury pile-up when things have gone against United, they have still performed below the expected standards.
An eighth-place finish in the Premier League was their lowest in 34 years and they ended up with a negative goal difference – something totally unthinkable just a few years ago.
Their European campaign was a complete failure and ultimately had Ten Hag not found salvation in winning the FA Cup the debate over whether he should be sacked would be settled.
