It has been reported that Manchester City are prepared to sell one of the young players on their books.
In recent seasons, a key part of Manchester City’s summer business has emerged from the youngsters they have sold. Pep Guardiola’s men have offloaded top young talents like Cole Palmer, James Trafford, Romeo Lavia and Gavin Bazunu in the last few years.

- Man City prepared to sell “special” 21-year-old in the summer
In most cases, their decisions to let go of such players have not affected the first-team’s success.
In addition, the young players in question have also been handed the opportunity to play senior football elsewhere and in some cases, they have gone on to become big names.
Cole Palmer is the standout example, while Romeo Lavia earned a move to Chelsea in the summer of 2023.
But a youngster Manchester City are ready to sell is 21-year-old Liam Delap, according to The Sun (09/06/2024, page 55). It has been claimed that City will sell Delap to an unnamed Premier League club.
The report claims that City’s primary motivation for selling the Winchester-born striker is to help them with their ongoing issues with the Profit and Sustainability Rules.
With Delap, described as “special” by Guardiola via Manchester Evening News being a homegrown player, his potential sale would count as pure profit, as per the existing PSR rules.
Man City will be hoping they do not regret selling Liam Delap
In our view, while Manchester City might have to sell Liam Delap from a business standpoint, they will be hoping that they do not regret his potential sale.
Delap displayed his class in a City shirt in the few appearances he made for the club, famously scoring in a 2-1 win against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup.
However, the former Derby County goalscorer has struggled to make his mark during his loan spells at Stoke City, Preston North End and Hull City.
But with Liam Delap’s eye for goal, strength and tenacity, he could prove his class at a Premier League club.
With Manchester City known for having a brilliant eye for talent, perhaps they are internally comfortable with offloading Delap.
