As 24 national teams undergo their final preparations for Euro 2024, the likes of Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard will be watching on from their sofas after failing to qualify with Norway.

This evening, the Norwegians will lock horns with fellow Scandinavians Denmark in the latter’s final warm-up fixture before jetting off to Germany next week.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side were drawn in Group C along with England, meaning Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen will meet with two familiar faces at the beginning of the tournament in the form of Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo.

As for Hojlund, he’ll be adamant about reigniting the red-hot goalscoring form he oversaw in the qualifying stages, where he netted seven times in eight matches before missing the final two fixtures with a hamstring strain.

The 21-year-old is fresh off the back of his maiden campaign in England after notching 16 goals in all competitions. Overall, the Manchester United faithful are optimistic with what they’ve seen of their primary No.9, who is expected to lead the Reds’ line for the coming years.

Hojlund is rated highly by Odegaard

Odegaard is seemingly impressed with what he’s seen of him, too. When asked by TVSport2 which one Denmark player he’d choose to play for Norway, the Arsenal skipper responded: “Hojlund; then we’d have another one at the top there.”

Man United are wanting to complete a deal to sign Jarrad Branthwaite before the end of June.

Manchester United simply have no choice but to acquire at least one centre-half this summer. The Old Trafford club require some extra defensive help after losing Raphael Varane, who has been released upon the expiry of his contract.

Perhaps the name most-linked with filling the void left by the Frenchman is Jarrad Branthwaite. The Everton man enjoyed a stellar season for The Toffees, contributing heavily as the Merseyside club staved off relegation.

Branthwaite looked nailed on to feature in the England squad for the European Championships though yesterday, the centre-back was snubbed from Three Lions duty over in Germany.

Now, the Liverpool Echo have provided an update on his club future as they claim United are attempting to sign the 21-year-old before the end of June. This saga would have likely dragged on for another month if Branthwaite was named in Gareth Southgate’s final squad.

However, United could look to use his omission to their advantage. Reds chiefs are now ‘expecting’ the transfer to be complete over the next few weeks, before June 30th.

Everton are said to be holding out for a £75m transfer fee, which feels quite expensive, though you’re paying for genuine longevity if you sign Branthwaite.

Another concern could be the fact that the defender has been dealing with a groin issue, which could require minor surgery to fix. There’s a chance his pre-season could be disrupted due to the injury.

Yes, this would be the majority of the summer budget gone, but Branthwaite is exactly the sort of player profile United should be looking at. I genuinely believe this would be a worthwhile signing if the Reds could get a deal done.

It takes a lot to decline a request from Lionel Messi – but one former Manchester United defender did just that.

The 36-year-old has eight Ballon d’Ors to his name and has cemented his legacy and reputation as one of, if not the, greatest footballer of all time.

Having come through the youth team ranks at Barcelona, Messi won 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns before departing in 2021.

Messi then went to French giants Paris Saint-Germain, spending two seasons in the French capital and winning a pair of Ligue 1 titles in that time.

Last summer, Messi headed Stateside to join David Beckham co-owned Inter Miami.

Messi has already lifted silverware with the MLS outfit, with the 2023 Leagues Cup won as he continues to experience success in the latter stages of his playing career.

Several of Messi’s past team-mates have reunited with him at Inter Miami, including former Barcelona stars Jordi Alba, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets.

It appears that the Argentina international has also tried to recruit some of his international team-mates to play with him at club level, including a former United defender in the form of Marcos Rojo.

The defender joined United in 2014 from Sporting Lisbon for £16m.

Rojo scored twice in 122 games for United, having been brought to the club by Louis Van Gaal, and won the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League during his time at Old Trafford.

After a loan spell with Estudiantes, Rojo departed United permanently in 2021 to head to Boca Juniors, where he currently plays his football.

But Rojo revealed Messi tried to convince him to come to Inter Miami, but he opted to remain at Juan Roman Riquelme’s side.

Speaking to Radio La Red, Rojo said: “Leo called me, it’s not like it was just anyone or an intermediary, no one. I spoke with Leo Messi, who told me about the possibility of going to Inter. Imagine what that means for any footballer.

“The truth is I was not convinced to leave Boca, I had recently renewed. The only thing I did was communicate with Roman to tell him about the situation and to tell him that if he needed me here I was going to stay.

“I wasn’t convinced to leave, I didn’t want to leave. If he told me that he needed me here for this year, I was 100% convinced to continue in Boca and I want to continue doing it.”
