After handing Daniel Gore his senior debut, Erik ten Hag sent a message to other Manchester United youngsters trying to break into the team.

Gore, 19, celebrated his birthday with his first senior appearance for Manchester United after coming through the academy and becoming the latest graduate under Ten Hag.

Speaking to Sky Sports after United’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, Ten Hag said his side’s young players have to prove themselves in training to get an opportunity. This is a clear suggestion that the manager is happy with Gore’s progress and wanted to reward him with a milestone achievement.

Ten Hag was also asked about Jadon Sancho, who has been banished from first team facilities at Carrington following his fallout with the manager. He refused to comment on the ongoing drama at the club.

Gore is obviously doing something Sancho isn’t. Maybe it’s something small like turning up for training on time.
