Manchester City star Phil Foden has left England’s Euro 2024 camp and returned to the UK due to a “pressing family matter”.
A statement from the Football Association on Wednesday said: “Phil Foden has temporarily left the England camp and returned to the UK for a pressing family matter.”
The 24-year-old – voted Premier League player of the season – played 89 minutes in England’s goalless draw with Slovenia in their final Euros group game on Tuesday evening. He has started each of England’s three matches at the tournament so far and it is unknown when he is expected back in Germany.

Man City ace Foden, who has 37 caps, has started his last nine England games but is yet to score or assist in any having mainly been played on the wing, a decision that boss Gareth Southgate has been criticised for at Euro 2024.
Potential line-up replacements for Foden include Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon – who made his Euros bow via a late cameo against Slovenia – and Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze.
Other wingers – aside from Bukayo Saka – in the squad include Cole Palmer and Jarrod Bowen. All four managed to get onto the pitch during the group stages.
Man City defenders Kyle Walker and John Stones, like Foden, have started every England match at Euro 2024 so far.
England will take on their last-16 opponents at Gelsenkirchen, where they beat Serbia 1-0 in their opening Euros match at the Arena AufSchalke.
