Confusion over Man United transfer as Manuel Ugarte’s agent addresses move to arch-rivals instead
Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte, with the player’s agent hinting at a move to the Red Devils’ rivals
Manchester United’s efforts to secure the signature of the much sought-after Uruguayan star Manuel Ugarte have been complicated by his agent’s latest comments.
Ugarte has been a standout performer at this year’s Copa America, featuring in every match for the 15-time winners who are enjoying an impressive run, and his commanding displays have not gone unnoticed by the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag is reportedly eyeing the PSG midfielder as a potential replacement for the expected outgoing Casemiro, with Ugarte potentially becoming the inaugural signing under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s prospective ownership.

Yet it’s United’s arch-rivals Liverpool that have been mentioned by the player’s agent in relation to Ugarte’s next move.
After struggling to make an impact following his high-profile transfer from Sporting CP, the PSG talent looks set to leave during the upcoming transfer window.
While his next destination remains uncertain, there’s no shortage of interest, as confirmed by his agent Jorge Chijane. In a conversation with O Jogo, Chijane hinted: “Liverpool? There is a lot of talk but it is not the only club, there are others. There are many possibilities on the table.”
Furthermore, Chijane suggested that an exit from PSG is almost guaranteed: “It’s almost certain that he won’t stay, it’s sure he’ll leave. I believe the situation will be resolved.”

Liverpool, much like their rivals United, found themselves with their own gap to fill in midfield following the departure of the ever-present Fabinho in the summer window of 2023, and were previously linked with Ugarte prior to his move to Paris.
The Reds bolstered their midfield ranks with the signings of Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, but it appears they are still not satisfied and continue to eye further reinforcements in that area.
Chelsea also expressed interest in securing Ugarte’s services in 2023, and were favourites to land him before withdrawing from the deal, which saw Ugarte make his way to Paris – however, a potential move to England has seemingly been revived.
Despite limited game time at club level, Ugarte’s talent remains undiminished, and it seems both United and Liverpool could be major contenders for his signature in the future.
