Manchester United are looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League this afternoon against Nottingham Forest.
The Red Devils picked up a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the opener but were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur on Matchday 2 (2-0).
Manager Erik ten Hag expects a strong reaction from him at Old Trafford today. There will be forced changes as Luke Shaw and Mason Mount will be injured.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Expected composition:
Andre Onana made a promising debut between the posts against Wolves but couldn’t prevent goals conceded at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Today the Cameroonian star sees another clean sheet at Old Trafford. Forest met United four times last season but failed to score a single goal.
A forced substitution followed for him, with left-back Shaw sidelined with a muscle injury.
Tyrell Malacia will also be sidelined with an injury sustained while playing for his country this summer. Therefore, Diogo Dalot looks like the likely candidate to start in the role. The rest of the back line should remain the same. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is likely to stay at right-back while Raphael Varane will play alongside Lisandro Martinez at centre-back.
Casemiro didn’t look fast enough in the first two games of the season but Ten Hag gave him his public support yesterday, saying the Brazilian was in top form.
The former Real Madrid player is expected to remain in sixth place but will have a new midfield partner as Mount will be out for the next few weeks with a hamstring injury.
Christian Eriksen seems to be the natural replacement for the Englishman in central midfield. The Dane has a lot to prove, having lost his starting job to the summer signing.
Further on, Bruno Fernandes is a starter nailed by the position of attacking midfielder. The new captain squandered a golden opportunity to put United ahead at Spurs.
He was also guilty of regularly dropping the ball and is due to get into action against Forest.
Antony and Marcus Rashford also didn’t play their best but will probably keep their places. The former should start in his usual role on the right wing.
We expect Alejandro Garnacho to take the bench so Rashford can return to his preferred left wing role. Last season’s top scorer for United struggled to lead.
Rasmus Hojlund is not yet ready to be part of the squad, but Anthony Martial is back on the pitch. We want you to lead the attack before Jadon Sancho against Forest.
