That’s difficult – Phil Foden shares his own opinion on exiting City legend Kevin De Bruyne

Phil Foden has played alongside a wide range of top-level players during his time in the Manchester City first-team.

Since making his senior debut for the Citizens back in 2017, the Englishman has made 270 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, featuring alongside over 60 players along the way.

Even though the 24-year-old is currently focused on international matter with England in the 2024 European Championship, he’s now been forced to pick between two of the most significant teammates he’s shared the pitch with in a City shirt.

Phil Foden decides who’s better out of Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva

In a recent video uploaded on the talkSPORT TikTok channel, Foden was doing a winner-stays-on challenge where he had to pick between certain midfielders from the past and present based on who he prefers.

When asked to choose between Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva, Foden said this.

He said: “That’s difficult, that. David Silva.”

Silva and De Bruyne are two City legends

During his 10-year spell at City, which ended with the Spaniard being commemorated with a statue outside the Etihad Stadium, Silva scored 77 goals and delivered 130 assists in 436 appearances across all competitions.

In comparison, De Bruyne has found the back of the net 102 times and supplied 170 assists in 382 appearances.

With Foden previously saying that Silva is his footballing idol, this makes it easy to see why he has gone for the former midfielder over his current City teammate.

However, taking into account what the Spaniard and Belgian have done for the club, we think that they should both be considered as City legends.

Moving forward, if Foden can continue his path and become as influential as Silva and De Bruyne have been for City, there should be no doubts that he will go on to have a legacy similar to theirs.

Pep Guardiola has coached many players during his time in charge of Manchester City.

Since being appointed as City’s manager back in 2016, the 53-year-old has overlooked 472 games in total across all competitions, winning 349, drawing 57 and losing 66, lifting many trophies along the way.

Out of the many players he’s used at the club, one of the more obscure figures currently on the book at the Etihad Stadium has shared how it’s been for him to be coached by such a significant figure in football.

Luke Mbete shares what it’s been like to be trained by Pep Guardiola

Speaking in a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel, Mbete had this to say about what it has been like to train under Guardiola at City.

He said: “I think it’s a beautiful experience. I’m fortunate enough to train under Pep and to be with the players.

“I’ve learned so much and I’m just grateful for the warm welcome that I had when I joined and I’m happy to be around them.”

Mbete isn’t the only City player to buzz off training with Guardiola

Back in June, after signing a new deal with the Citizens, Stefan Ortega shared how much he’s enjoyed working with and learning from the Spaniard, which shows that Mbete isn’t the only one to get a kick out of being around City manager and the other players in the senior squad.

The 20-year-old has made 61 appearances for City’s youth ranks and three for the senior side under Guardiola.

Mbete spent last season on loan at Dutch club FC Den Bosch where he made 24 appearances in total.

With the defender’s contract at City not set to expire until 2027, it’ll be interesting to see what the remainder of the summer transfer window will hold for him and what the next step in his career could be.
