You are going nowhere – Man City stops Ederson from leaving Ethihad

One of the biggest priorities for Manchester City this summer has been to resolve the future of Ederson. City’s number-one keeper is by far one of City’s most important players.

After Stefan Ortega signed a new contract it has become imperative that City put an end to the speculation that surrounds the future of Ederson. Now a new report indicates that the champions are making moves to keep hold of the Brazilian international.

Phil Thomas reports for the Sun that Manchester City are set to sit down with Ederson’s representatives next week. Thomas further reports that City are prepared to offer Ederson a 75% pay rise to retain his services.

Furthermore, Thomas adds that City’s impending offer won’t come near the mammoth salary offered to Ederson from Al Nassr. Lastly, Thomas reports that City won’t stand in Ederson’s way if he does seek to move to the Saudi Pro League this summer.

It is crucial to Manchester City that they keep Ederson at the club.

As things stand it does feel crucial that Manchester City convince Ederson to commit his future to the club. Since arriving at the club from Benfica the Brazilian keeper has established himself as one of the best keepers in world football. He is an integral piece of Pep Guardiola’s side. With his quality in possession at times he resembles another midfielder for the champions.

This ability coupled with his all-around ability as a keeper makes him one of Manchester City’s most important players. While Stefan Ortega can step in for Ederson there is no replacing the Brazilian keeper. If City are forced to find a new keeper they will have a hard time replacing what Ederson offers.

It also feels like it could be crucial to City’s prospects for the 24/25 season that they keep Ederson. Even if he does depart the club Pep Guardiola’s side will still be contenders on multiple fronts. But having to do so while adjusting to life with a new keeper will make it a tougher task. It is debatable whether it is possible to replace Ederson.

He is a one-of-a-kind keeper and is the perfect keeper for how Manchester City play. If City do manage to convince Ederson to remain at the club they will be retaining the services of a special player.

The new report from Phil Thomas suggests that City are making moves to keep Ederson at the club. If they get the Brazilian to sign a new deal it will be a massive win for the world champions.

Manchester City will welcome Ederson back to training in the coming days as the club look to keep hold of their No.1 goalkeeper.

Ederson saw his season cut short in May, forced off against his wishes in the penultimate Premier League game against Tottenham and subsequently ruled out of the final matches with a fractured eye socket. That injury also forced him to miss the Copa America, with Brazil taking him out of their squad when they saw the extent of the problem.

Stefan Ortega won plaudits for his performance off the bench at Spurs, and while Pep Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain have both made clear that Ederson remains the No.1 keeper at the club it was a frustrating start to the summer. The Saudi Pro League have offered the Brazilian a new opportunity but the Blues are confident they will be able to stave off the interest.

Ederson’s unavailability for the Copa America does at least mean that he is able to be part of City’s pre-season from the beginning after recovering from his injury. The 30-year-old has enjoyed seven weeks off and will return to Manchester ready to make his mark on the team again.

Despite being without many first team stars, Guardiola will have both Ederson and Stefan Ortega for his squad on tour when they fly out to the United States on Friday for four friendlies. Being part of the group from the start will allow Ederson to put himself in pole position for the beginning of the season, with a trip to Chelsea on the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign.
