Agreement has been Reached and no doubt he will sign for Man Utd

Last Tuesday, Bild reported Manchester United are ready to offer the €50m fee requested by Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt.

Two days later, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg said the defender wants to join the Red Devils immediately.

The 24-year-old has agreed a five-year deal with Manchester United and this is backed up by Fussball News, who then provide the latest on this case.

Manchester United have opened talks with Bayern and this has been ‘harmonious and very constructive’, without yet agreeing a deal for the centre-back’s transfer.

It’s claimed the Premier League side are ready to propose €50m, and need to sort out the details of the deal.

Erik ten Hag’s side and the Bavarian club have to agree on the fixed sum, bonuses and most importantly the payment method [number of years to amortise the deal].

Manchester United wanted to secure the operation for the Netherlands international at the weekend. That didn’t happen, but Fussball News say the ‘delay leaves no one in doubt’ that the deal to take the player to Old Trafford will go through.

The report claims the transfer could be finalised in the ‘coming days’, most likely after the financial details are sorted out between Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

On Sunday, Ten Hag’s side completed the signing of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna. De Ligt is set to join his compatriot soon in England.

Manchester United’s manager Erik ten Hag has opened up the necessity for more players if the club aims to improve on last season’s performance, according to Manchester World.

The 2023/24 season was a low point for the Red Devils, finishing eighth in the Premier League with a negative goal difference.

Key players such as Raphael Varane, Donny van de Beek, and Anthony Martial have departed, and Ten Hag has taken over with a new coaching team under a restructured Ineos-led administration at Old Trafford. Expectations are high for a better season ahead.

Ten Hag, however, cautions that squad depth remains an issue. “When everyone is fit, we already have a good team and can achieve a high level.

But also, we know in terms of the depth, we need more players,” he told the Mirror after United’s pre-season opener against Rosenborg ended in a loss.

Last season, United experienced more injuries than any other Premier League team, straining the squad during extensive cup runs. The upcoming 2024/25 season’s expanded Europa League group stage adds two extra matches.

“Especially this season – again, more games, the new model, the new format of Europe – you’ll have more games in a season, more intense games.

No winter break and a January that’s very condensed. So you need squad depth. Then it’s more and more about the survival of the fittest,” Ten Hag said.

So far, United’s only acquisition this summer is Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna. Interest remains in players like Matthijs de Ligt, Jarrad Branthwaite, Leny Yoro, and Manuel Ugarte.

With Zirkzee’s addition, United now has two centre-forwards, including Rasmus Hojlund. Ten Hag stated the tactical benefits of Zirkzee’s skills post-defeat in Norway.

“[He’s] a different type and always what we are looking for, so it gives us more options tactically, which is good because, especially up front, we have many players who can play very direct and they can take a big benefit from his skills,” he said.
