Manchester United close to signing Liverpool target Adrien Rabiot before weekend – Eric ten Hag

Manchester United is close to sealing its third summer transfer after the captures of Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee. Liverpool had been linked with the star in question.

Manchester United is on the brink of securing a deal for free agent Adrien Rabiot. Following successful negotiations for Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, Erik ten Hag is now setting his sights on bolstering his central midfield department.

With rumors swirling around potential departures for Casemiro and Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat yet to finalize a permanent move to Manchester after his loan spell at Fiorentina ended in June, reinforcements are needed. Rabiot and Manuel Ugarte have been heavily linked as potential additions.

But French journalist Romain Collet-Gaudin reports that Rabiot is set to move to Old Trafford. The French international is up for grabs on a free transfer after turning down a new contract at Juventus.

While Rabiot has attracted interest from several clubs, Liverpool was never in for the 29-year-old despite suggestions to the contrary. The player will be heading to the Premier League, though, it seems, after years of speculation linking him with a transfer to England.

In other news, Manchester United is open to sending Antony out on loan for the upcoming season, according to ESPN. The Brazilian has struggled to meet expectations following his $107m (£85m/€100m) switch from Ajax.

Last season saw the 24-year-old net just once in 29 Premier League outings, with his solitary goal coming in a 1-1 stalemate with Burnley in April. He was left on the bench for the final two league matches of the season, as well as the FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City.

Liverpool.com says: Rabiot was never going to end up at Anfield but he feels like a very Manchester United signing…. on big wages, is he even that good? As for Antony, he is another example of Manchester United’s poor recruitment in recent seasons. The Brazilian winger came in for a vastly inflated fee and has done nothing to suggest he could ever justify the outlay.
