Manchester City closing in on €25m boost after personal terms are agreed

Manchester City look set to make a neat profit on Brazilian wide-player Yan Couto, after he showed the upside of his talent for Girona last season. The 22-year-old cost them €6m from Curitiba four years ago, and now will likely improve their investment by at least four times.

Couto has agreed personal terms with Borussia Dortmund, according to information provided by Fabrizio Romano, and City are nearing an agreement with the Schwarzgelben too. The total package will be under €30m, but at least €25m will be a fixed fee, with several more coming in variables.

Capped internationally by the Selecao, Couto played a starring role in La Liga last season. Playing mostly at right-back for Girona, he provided 12 assists and three goals over the course of the season, and no doubt they would have been more than happy to retain him. They could come up against Couto in the Champions League this coming campaign.

Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola maintained his player-exit policy when asked about Julian ALvarez’s latest comments on his future.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has responded to the recent interview of club asset Julian Alvarez, who recently expressed that he was actively considering an exit from the Premier League champions.

What Alvarez said

As Pulse Sports reported, Alvarez is unsatisfied with his current role at Manchester City and is contemplating a departure to perceived greener pastures.

The 24-year-old was billed for greatness when he joined Manchester City from Argentine side River Plate; however, he has had to play deputy to a superior talent, Erling Haaland.

Alvarez has made 103 appearances for Manchester City since joining in 2022. He has scored 36 goals and provided 18 assists. The striker also admitted to enjoying game time last season but emphasised that he fell down the pecking order in the more important games towards the end of the season.

“I haven’t stopped to think about what I’m going to do,” Alvarez told DSports Radio. “Last season, I was one of the players who played the most minutes on the team.

“But it’s true: in the end, in some important games, it’s not pleasant to be left out. I will have time to consider my decision. I haven’t stopped to think things through calmly. Once the Olympic Games are over, I will take the time to reflect on what I want for myself.”

Alvarez is not lacking suitors. He has interests in Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea and even in LALIGA from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Guardiola’s response

Alvarez is not with the rest of the Manchester City squad, who are currently on a pre-season tour of the USA, as he is in France with the Argentina national team for the Olympics.

When asked about Alvarez’s comments, Guardiola said the following: “I read that he’s going to think about it. Ok, think about it. Then he will inform us what he wants to do,” Guardiola said, per Fabrizio Romano.

“Julián played a lot. He wants more? It’s fine. So that’s why… think about it. And when he thinks about it, he will inform us.”

Meanwhile, with Alvarez at the Olympics and the number of Manchester City players that participated at the European Championships and the Copa America, Pep Guardiola has determined that his team will not be ready at the start of the Premier League season.
