Arteta not ruling out more Arsenal business

Mikel Arteta kept his cards close to his chest on the subject of further signings after Riccardo Calafiori.

“We have to wait and see with the moments in the markets,” he told reporters in the United States.

“We already identify things we can improve, we had meetings in February, March, April and anything we can, we will try and strengthen the team in the areas we think we can get better.

“So far, I’m really happy with what we have.”

Real Sociedad have offer on table for Merino

Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino remains a target for Arsenal, but the Spanish club have made efforts to keep him on board.

“He has an offer to renew, for over a year, and if he has not renewed yet it is because he does not want to mislead the La Real fans, which speaks well of him,” club president Jokin Aperribay said, as translated by The Athletic.

“I’d like him not to leave, we all would but, if he tells us he accepts another offer on the table, and wants us to negotiate, we will.

“We know he has some, and what they are. But we still hope Mikel Merino will stay at La Real, but if not we’ll negotiate the best outcome for La Real.”

While United are fancied for the move, clubs from outside the Premier League could yet steal a march.

Leipzig chief gives Olmo update

RB Leipzig CEO Johann Plenge has issued an update on the future of Manchester City and Barcelona target Dani Olmo.

“Dani is highly regarded and is our player – and that will still be the case when we start training again after the trip to the USA and nothing happens until then,” Plenge told Kicker (via Goal).

“He played a very strong European Championship, so it was clear that other top clubs were knocking on the door. Transfers are part of the business and are a source of income. But they are also just one of many. One thing is clear: we will not sell any player for less than he is worth.

“We are not under pressure to sell. We plan commercially and also with transfer income, but if we don’t generate any, for example, because an offer does not meet our expectations, we will have to generate other income.”

West Ham United are still ‘in talks’ with United about a deal for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to Sky Sports.

However, a valuation discrepancy still lingers. According to Sky, neither club can agree on a fee, with United reportedly wanting £15million-plus for the 26-year-old.
