Manchester United are still yet to communicate a decision on Erik ten Hag’s future at the club as Ineos’ end-of-season review continues.
The Ineos Group started conducting their review last week and the outcome of it is poised to decide Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford. The Dutchman oversaw an eighth-placed finish in 2023/24, marking the club’s lowest-ever finish in the Premier League era, but he did salvage the campaign somewhat by winning the FA Cup.
Almost a fortnight on from that victory over Manchester City at Wembley, however, United are yet to make a decision, meaning it risks impacting the club’s summer transfer plans. The transfer window officially opens on June 14.
United have plans to make the most of this summer’s window, with Ineos keen to make much-needed changes. Sales could reach double figures and a new intake is expected.
United are continuing to be linked with a plethora of names, including Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and Michael Olise of Crystal Palace. Speculation is also continuing to surround Bruno Fernandes and his future.

United reject bid for Wan-Bissaka
According to Fotomac, United have rejected a bid worth £8.53m from Galatasaray for Wan-Bissaka.
As mentioned, the English full-back has faced competition from Dalot for his spot in the United team this season meaning his future at the club is uncertain.
Wan-Bissaka’s contract at Old Trafford shall expire in 2025 and it is unclear whether he will be offered a new deal. The report suggests the Turkish giants will continue negotiations with United for the defender.

Dumfries change of heart could impact United man
Not only will Dumfries’ decision impact United, it could also impact the future of Wan-Bissaka.
The English full-back was heavily linked with a swap deal with the Inter man this summer but if Dumfries decides to remain in Italy, that prospect will be ruled out.
Should Wan-Bissaka stay at Old Trafford he will be in another battle with Diogo Dalot for that starting spot on the right side of defence.

United ‘target’ to rule out transfer
Inter defender Denzel Dumfries has been linked with a move to United recently but it appears he has had a change of heart about leaving the Milan club this summer.
Speaking on Thursday, Inter’s director Piero Ausilio said:
Denzel has told me he wants to stay. He’s happy to continue here. We will discuss his contract soon. In case there are new proposals, we will talk with Denzel but he’s happy here.

United receive Branthwaite transfer boost
While Branthwaite missing out on a spot on the plane to Germany will be of great disappointment to him, it is a boost in the Reds’ bid to sign him should they wish to do so.
The centre-back’s now free summer should give United ample opportunity to negotiate a deal should they wish to sign him to strengthen their defence.
The Everton man will command a large transfer fee but he is certainly an investment for the future.

United target misses out on Euros
One man who will not be on the plane to Germany is Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
United are interested in a move for the centre-back but are wary the Toffees will hold out for £80m for their promising defender.
Explaining his decision to leave Branthwaite out of the England squad, Southgate said:
It’s a bit early for Jarrad. He’s had a fabulous season. You’d like that balance of left footers. For him to be ahead of the others I don’t think that would have been the right decision.

Rice heaps praise onto Mainoo
After making his first-ever senior international tournament squad, Mainoo has received praise from his potential midfield partner Declan Rice.
We saw what Kobbie could do and what he’s done at Man United. He fully deserves his place in the squad.
The Arsenal man added:
Adam [Wharton] has been outstanding. In training he’s impressed a lot of players, he’s so composed on the ball. He wants to learn. What a moment for him and his family. I know he’s one who won’t take it for granted. He’s ready for the big stage. The future’s looking bright for England in midfield.

Delight for Shaw
After a difficult campaign, Shaw will be delighted that he has made the cut for the England squad this summer.
The left-back missed the last 13 matches of the season through injury and Southgate himself admitted that it would be a long shot that the United man would be fit for Germany.
Yet Shaw has managed to make his way into the team which could be a huge boost for not only England but also United heading into the new season.

Southgate provides positive Shaw injury update
After surprising many to be included in the England provisional squad, Shaw has managed to book his place on the flight to Germany and Southgate has provided a positive update on the left-back’s fitness.
He’s progressed really well in the last couple of weeks. We think he could have some involvement in the second group game but you’ve got to keep hitting the markers. I think you can take one gamble and that’s the gamble we’ve got enough evidence to believe can pay off.

Southgate update on Maguire absence
After leaving Maguire out of the England squad, Southgate provided this update on the player.
The decision on Harry is totally about his physical condition. He’s one of our strongest centre-back. Lewis [Dunk] and Marc [Guehi] played the other night but [Ezri] Konsa’s had an excellent season at Villa. He played at centre-half for us in March and was outstanding. Joe Gomez can play in various different positions.

“Harry Maguire started the season on the fringe of the United squad. He was rightly stripped of his captaincy last summer and demoted in the central defensive pecking order, but he enjoyed an unlikely renaissance in a red shirt and regained the trust of Erik ten Hag. His strength of character has always been a quality and Maguire overcame a disappointing two seasons to enjoy an impressive 2023/24 campaign on an individual basis. He finished the season having made 25 starts and his absence in the latter part of the campaign was a blow. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez started in the FA Cup final against Manchester City but Maguire would have been in contention if he’d been fit. The defender has avoided injury for most of his career and was unfortunate to pick up two separate issues last term, a groin problem in December and April’s calf injury.”

England manager Gareth Southgate has named his final 26-man squad for Euro 2024.
United defender Harry Maguire, as he confirmed earlier, has not made the cut because of injury. United teammates Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo, however, have been included for the tournament in Germany.

Hjulmand makes Premier League admission amid United transfer links
Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand has confirmed he relishes the prospect of playing in the Premier League amid reports linking him with a move to United.
Reports over the last few days in Portugal have linked the Danish international with a big-money move to M16. The Reds have plans to strengthen their midfield options in this summer’s transfer window.
Hjulmand, as quoted by Sport Witness, said:
“I’d say that it is a destination I could see myself going to in the future. Whether it’s a dream, I don’t know. But it is a goal for me to play in the Premier League one day.”

Mainoo makes the cut
Harry Maguire has confirmed he has joined James Maddison in being left out of England’s final 26-man squad for the European Championship.
The duo are reported to have been joined in missing out on a place on the plane by James Trafford, Jarrad Branthwaite, Jarell Quansah, Curtis Jones and Jack Grealish.
It means United youngster Kobbie Mainoo is expected to make the final 26-man squad. The midfielder has been exceptional this season and fully deserves to join Gareth Southgate and his squad in Germany.
He could start tomorrow night’s clash with Iceland at Wembley in what is England’s final warm-up match.

Maguire confirms he will miss Euro 2024
United defender Harry Maguire has confirmed he will miss the European Championship through injury.
News broke earlier this afternoon, claiming he had fallen short in his battle against a calf injury to make Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad.
He has confirmed the news in a post on his Instagram page, writing:
“I am devastated not to have been selected to play for England at the Euros this summer. Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to overcome an injury to my calf. Maybe I pushed myself too hard, to try and make it. Simply, I am absolutely gutted. For me, representing England is the highest honour. It means everything to me. If I can’t help the team as a player, I will support them as a fan – along with the rest of the country. Go and win it boys. Next, I will return to the supervision of the Manchester United medical team in order to prepare for next season. ”

Maguire ‘left out’ of final England squad for Euro 2024
According to a report by The Athletic, Harry Maguire has been left out of England’s final 26-man squad for the European Championship.
The centre-back has been fighting a calf injury in recent weeks and it is not poised to heal in time for him to feature at the tournament in Germany. He has been a staple for England at each of the last three major tournaments.
Maguire last played on April 27, starting United’s 1-1 draw with Burnley at Old Trafford.
The report states that Maguire has joined Manchester City’s Jack Grealish in being left out of the squad, alongside Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, Liverpool duo Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones and Tottenham Hotspur ace James Maddison. One more player will also have to drop out to bring the size of the squad down to 26.

Ten Hag ‘still confident’ he will stay at United
According to a report by GiveMeSport, United manager Erik ten Hag ‘remains confident’ that he will remain in charge at Old Trafford.
United are still yet to communicate a decision on the Dutchman’s future after they opened their review into the 2023/24 campaign last week. Sources said that a decision on his future was unlikely to be announced imminently.

“What United can’t afford to do is to leave themselves short heading into the new season. The injury crisis that decimated Erik ten Hag’s squad during 2023/24 is a warning as to the unexpected events that can quickly derail a campaign. So the desire to keep 36-year-old Jonny Evans in the squad for one more year makes perfect sense. The former title-winner played more than anyone expected last season, finishing with 30 appearances and a cameo in the FA Cup final. United make ‘specific enquiry’ about Schalke youngster
According to a report by German publication Bild, United have made a ‘specific enquiry’ about highly-rated FC Schalke midfielder Assan Ouedraogo.
The 18-year-old, it seemed, was set to join Bayern Munich, but it was reported last week that deal had broke down, opening the door for others to try their luck.
Along with United, it is claimed that Liverpool have also made a ‘specific enquiry’ about the youngster. The report adds that Schalke have set an asking price of €10million (£8.5m at current exchange rate) for English clubs wanting to sign him.

Fabregas drops Fofana hint amid United links
Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has hinted that AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana could move to AC Milan this summer.
Fofana has been heavily linked with a move to United in recent months amid the fact he is poised to be allowed to leave Monaco this summer. He recently admitted he and the French club have an agreement in place for him to leave if a club comes knocking with a presentable offer.
Fabregas told the BBC’s Planet Premier League podcast:
“I know him, I played with him. Funnily enough I never heard about Man United, I heard that he was going to AC Milan because [Paulo] Fonseca (manager) probably is going to go there from France and they know each other, so let’s see where he goes. But he’s a very dynamic and strong player, good on the ball, a modern type of player, aggressive, can jump, he’s box-to-box. I really like Fofana and I think he fits very well with the Premier League style.”

Premier League clubs vote to keep VAR
Premier League clubs have voted in favour keeping VAR ahead of next season.
Wolves, who were on the receiving end of several controversial VAR decisions during the 2023/24 campaign, submitted a vote to abolish the system. The Midlands outfit had said it was “undermining the value of the Premier League brand”.
However, at today’s Premier League annual general meeting (AGM), their hopes of it being abolished were knocked back. They were the only club to vote against it.

Bremer issues update on his future amid United interest
United target Gleison Bremer has admitted that he would like to play in the Premier League one day.
The Juventus defender is understood to be being monitored by the Reds ahead of the summer transfer window opening next week. The Manchester Evening News reported last month that the Brazilian is one of a handful of defenders United are keeping an eye on.
Bremer told Marca:
“Yes, there are clubs like [Real] Madrid or Barca that are top. La Liga, Serie A and the Premier League are the best leagues in the world – that’s why one day I would like to try [them]. But, I insist, I am happy at Juve.”
