Antony Cleared of Assault and Threatening Ex-Girlfriend in Brazil

Manchester United winger Antony has been cleared of allegations of assault and threatening his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, by Brazilian police. The investigation, which has been ongoing for over a year, concluded with authorities finding insufficient evidence to support Cavallin’s claims, as reported by Globo.com.

The allegations first surfaced in May 2023 when Cavallin, a DJ, publicly accused Antony of domestic violence. She detailed various incidents of alleged abuse, including being physically assaulted and held captive by Antony. According to Cavallin, Antony had physically assaulted her, causing injury, and had prevented her from leaving their shared residence.

 

Antony, who had consistently denied the allegations, responded to the police’s conclusion with a statement on Instagram. He expressed relief at being cleared and emphasized his commitment to proving his innocence throughout the investigation. “Despite being born and raised in a very needy community, I have never been through a situation similar to this,” Antony wrote. “The damage initially caused to my image will be in the past.”

The investigation into the claims made in Brazil is separate from a parallel investigation by Greater Manchester Police, which is still ongoing. Cavallin has alleged that Antony assaulted her on multiple occasions in the UK, including while she was pregnant. This investigation remains active, and Antony has been cooperating with authorities.

 

Following the initial allegations, Antony was dropped from the Brazilian national team and temporarily excused from Manchester United’s squad. He has since resumed training with the team after attending a voluntary interview with Greater Manchester Police.

 

 

 

Antony’s case has been marked by a significant media spotlight and public scrutiny, which he has addressed publicly, asserting his innocence and commitment to clearing his name.
