They are not comparable in any way – Simon Jordan blast ex Man Utd player Rio Ferdinand

Simon Jordan, the former Crystal Palace chairman, has hit back at Rio Ferdinand’s criticism of Manchester United for selling Scott McTominay, according to Sportskeeda. Ferdinand, a former United defender, was upset by the decision to offload the 27-year-old midfielder, but Jordan has dismissed his comments as “silly”.

Jordan questioned what Manchester United’s DNA is currently, implying that the team’s identity and culture have changed since Ferdinand’s playing days. He suggested that comparing the current team to past teams is a “false comparison” and that United’s priorities have changed.

“Scott McTominay is alright,” Jordan said. “I mean, what’s the DNA of Manchester United right now? Because it damn sure isn’t winning, is it? Right now? The DNA of United used to be the poster boys of the Premier League, the best football club, in my view, in the world.”

Jordan also questioned whether academy players should never be sold, implying that it’s a natural part of football. “Is this the latest narrative now that anyone who comes out of an academy has got to stay there forever? At what point can you sell an academy player? Never?” he asked.

Ferdinand had argued that replacing McTominay with a £40 million signing was unnecessary, but Jordan believes that United’s decision to sell the midfielder is pragmatic. McTominay is set to join Napoli in a £25.4 million deal, ending a 22-year association with United.

The sale of McTominay has sparked debate among United fans, with some agreeing with Ferdinand that the midfielder should have been kept. However, Jordan’s comments highlight the changing landscape of football and the need for clubs to adapt and evolve.
