Selling a United Academy graduate who has made himself a first-team star is never a nice feeling, but ultimately for Scott McTominay’s career, it is a remarkable move.

He becomes the latest player to be sold this summer by Manchester United, and he is the one many fans will be missing most.

Now, some of his teammates have demonstrated that they will also be missing him as McTominay becomes the latest player to play for both Napoli and United.

Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire send messages

McTominay is known to be a well-liked member of the squad, and so it is little surprise to see such heart-warming messages almost immediately after his move was made official.

Harry Maguire was one player to send McTominay a message, as he posted on his Instagram story: “All the best mate, you’ll be missed”.

Scott McTominay could be an absolute demon in Italy

With the qualities McTominay has, there is a strong chance that he will take the Italian league by storm and fill his boots with goals.

McTominay is tall, quick and often lethal in front of goal which are three things needed to succeed in Serie A.

Having found himself the last year, now McTominay can really make his career his own, at Napoli where he will soon be joined him his fellow Scotland international Billy Gilmour – making the adjustment easier we would imagine.

We will certainly be tuning into Napoli games to see how McTominay is getting on during 2024/25.

It is the time for announcements at Manchester United as the transfer window ticks to a close but amidst all the chaos, a different kind of announcement has arrived.

Manchester United star Jonny Evans has cut through the transfer news clutter with a message to the footballing world to which Scott McTominay has reacted.

It is McTominay’s first message since his Napoli transfer looked imminent, the official announcement for which could come anytime now.

Jonny Evans has long been a stalwart for his international side Northern Ireland, for whom he bows out after making a staggering 107 appearances.

He scored six goals in those 107 appearances and became a leadership figure in the camp soon after his debut in 2006.

He is one of only four players to make more than 100 appearances for the Northern Ireland international team, and his announcement has been greeted with congratulations from all corners of the footballing world.

Evans posted the message on his Instagram, recounting his best moments in international football and expressing gratitude for all those involved in his journey.

Manchester United responded to the post with two words that succinctly describe Evans’ standing in his country, writing, “National Icon”.

Harry Maguire reacted with two clapping emojis while fellow elder statesman at Old Trafford, Tom Heaton said, “Incredible pal” with two clapping emojis.

McTominay replied to it on his stories with a ten-word message that expressed his admiration for the defender. saying: “Congratulations on an amazing international career, you are the man!!!!”

McTominay and Evans are similar

It is poetic that an international chapter of Jonny Evans’ career is closing just as a new club chapter for Scott McTominay is about to begin.

The two academy graduates are quite similar in terms of being absolute model professionals who are a credit to the ethos of the academy.

Their quality on the pitch has been doubted many times, with Evans also leaving the club for more first-team opportunities before a sensational return, but they have had long and fulfilling careers.

It is because of their commitment to their game, drive to improve, and willingness to recognise their limitations while still giving it their all on the field.

This has led to fans gaining respect for them that goes far beyond their achievements on the field. It can be seen in the emotional reaction of fans to the news of McTominay’s departure, and the reaction to Evans’ announcement has been similar.

Jadon Sancho’s Manchester United exit has been held back by his wage demands and Manchester United’s asking price.

They have proven to be an issue for Chelsea, who are not the leading candidate for Sancho anymore.

Juventus have emerged as a possibility, as they prepare to complete the sale of Federico Chiesa. Other players can also depart the Italian giants before deadline day.

Gazzetta dello Sport have shared a positive update regarding Sancho’s exit, stating that Juve are about to make a renewed offer for the Manchester United player soon.

The Red Devils have now ‘opened up’ to moving the player out on an initial loan deal with an option to buy, which could favour the Bianconeri.

It is mentioned that Juve’s first offer to United was a dry loan deal with them continuing to pay a quarter of Sancho’s €20m a season wages. Their next offer could be a bigger package.

They will use the money from Chiesa’s sale and also from the exit of one of Filip Kostic or Arthur.

With the help of all that, their next bid could cost about €11m to €13m – including the player’s wages. There is no mention of whether they will offer an option to buy or not.

The offer should arrive in the next few hours.

Wednesday saw claims from Fabrice Hawkins that a deal had already been agreed with an obligation to buy, that now seems to have been nonsense.
