Jan Oblak to replace Andre Onana at Manchester United

Jan Oblak to replace Andre Onana at Manchester United

Old Trafford

Resent goalkeeping blunders from Manchester United kipper Andre Onana has cost Reds vital points in the EPL this season . This has left many united fans angry and devasted which has necessitated the call for the team to hunt for fresh hands in Jan Oblak to do the job.

Manchester United reportedly have no desire to replace number one goalkeeper Andre Onana amid suggestions that Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak is back on their radar.

Onana arrived at Old Trafford from Inter Milan over the summer, with the 27-year-old penning a five-year contract with the 20-time English champions.

The Cameroonian has found it difficult to show his best form since arriving in Manchester, though, conceding 15 times in nine appearances, including four on his Champions League debut for the club against Bayern Munich.

A recent report claimed that Onana’s performances were already under the microscope, with the Red Devils considering making an attempt to sign Oblak, who has long been linked with a switch to Old Trafford.

However, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, there is no truth to suggestions that Oblak could be targeted as a replacement for Onana, with the stopper still having the full confidence of his manager and teammates.

“I wanted to start by clarifying some lies and fake news circulating around the goalkeeper situation at Manchester United,” Romano wrote in his column for CaughtOffside.

“It’s obviously not been the easiest start for Andre Onana at Old Trafford, but we know it can sometimes take time for a player at a new club, in a new country, so it’s important to give him some time.

“There have also been some rumours about Man United and Jan Oblak, with speculation that the Atletico Madrid ‘keeper could be a target for the Red Devils, but I can confirm that this is completely fake.

“There is nothing at all between United and Oblak, they invested big money in Onana and they trust him. The United ‘keeper for the present and future will be Onana, and with Oblak there are no conversations at all, on the player side or club side. It would make no sense for United to be pursuing this deal at this stage.”

Onana kept back-to-back clean sheets against Crystal Palace and Burnley on September 23 and September 26 respectively, but he conceded once against Palace in the league on Saturday.

Just one goal shipped in his last three appearances is a huge improvement, though, as the goals had been going in at an alarming rate earlier this season.

Man United also signed Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce on transfer deadline day, with the Turkey international arriving as the back-up stopper to Onana.

Bayindir had been expected to make his debut against Palace in the EFL Cup, but Onana was somewhat surprisingly chosen between the sticks.

Tom Heaton, who was linked with a move away during the summer market, is also still at Old Trafford, with the Englishman the number three behind Onana and Bayindir.

Old Trafford crisis

Manchester United are deep in crisis amid their worst-ever start to a Premier League season and club chiefs are desperately trying to turn things around at Old Trafford

Manchester United are looking to overhaul their academy by advertising for two new scouts to take over their ‘emerging talent’ department.

The Red Devils are in crisis mode after a fourth defeat in seven games handed them their worst-ever start to a Premier League season. Boss Erik ten Hag has splashed the cash ever since he arrived at Ajax last summer, even breaking the club’s transfer record.

But there is growing concern at the lack of academy players breaking into the first-team. The only players in the current first-team squad to have come through the club’s academy are Jonny Evans, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford.

It is a situation that has now come to a head, with club bosses taking drastic action to improve the pathway for young stars. That has led to the creation of a new part of their scouting team, with two people set to be hired to lead it.

They have placed two job adverts on their website, the first for a Lead Phase Scout for the 17-20 age group. The advert states that the Red Devils are looking for a person to “perform a leading role in the identification, recruitment, and retention of the best UK players for the Academy/First Team from 17 to 20 years of age, in line with the Club’s Recruitment Philosophy”.

The lead scout will be responsible for leading and overseeing scouting for the age group. They will have the “ability to identify and evaluate talented players”. Eleven characteristics have been listed as essential, including Scouting Strategy, Player Assessment and Progress Monitoring.

United will further boost their team with the addition of a Phase Scout for the 17-20 age group. For this role, the club are looking for someone who has a “deep understanding of football scouting” and “the capacity to provide valuable player information and recommendations”.

Ten characteristics are listed as being essential for this job, with United looking for a person with “extensive experience” in scouting the 17-20 age group. The job search comes with United struggling on the pitch, with boss Ten Hag admitting his side need to look in the mirror after Saturday’s defeat to Crystal Palace,

“I think every occasion is different. Sometimes it’s like calmness and composure, other times it’s be more clinical, other times be more direct. The next time, play the extra pass. As I’ve said, it’s about decision making, the qualities and skillset the players have,” he said.

There were many occasions, I can’t count them, but we are in the position to put the ball where we want to be. I think I repeat myself but we came into the positions and have to make the [correct] decision. Yes, these players can do better.
