Journalist shares what Liverpool insiders are now saying about signing Andre from Fluminense in January
Liverpool may not reignite their interest in signing Andre Trindade in the January transfer window.
The Reds have been heavily linked with the Fluminense midfielder over the course of the summer. But with the Brazilian side going well in the Copa Libertadores, they won’t sell him before next week’s deadline.
Instead, it’s been suggested that Liverpool could come back in for Andre at the end of Fluminense’s season. But speaking on his YouTube channel yesterday , journalist David Lynch suggested that sources at Anfield had cast doubt on that happening.

“It has been suggested that maybe a move [for Andre] could be agreed ahead of the January window when the Copa Libertadores would be done, maybe that is something that would appeal to Liverpool,” Lynch explained.
“But when I put that to sources at Liverpool they’ve returned to me and said ‘look we already got our 6 in Endo, we’re not out there looking for a pure holding midfielder at the moment.’

“That is clearly the profile that they think Andre is. They think he would come in as a holding midfielder and they’ve already got that when they signed Wataru Endo from Stuttgart, so they’re not looking for another pure 6.
“If another midfielder is to come in, they want it be someone who’s a multi-functional player. Someone who can play across a number of positions.”
Liverpool give Andre response
Even if Liverpool do see Andre as being purely a defensive midfielder, then a January deal would still make sense.
Endo may have been their eventual choice to fill the position this summer. But at age 30, the Japan captain is by no means a long-term option.
There are still question marks over whether he’s good enough for Liverpool, too. Obviously, he could have dispelled some of those by January, but there’d be no harm in getting him some help.
The other thing that should be considered here is that Thiago Alcantara is set to leave the Reds next year. As a result, Liverpool will need to get at least one more midfielder through the door in the next 12 months.
Get Andre in during the New Year, and that would solve this issue quite handily.
Aside from that, the Brazil international is only 22. He’s still more than young enough to be able to bed in and learn from Endo, before taking over from him at some stage.
Clearly, Liverpool weren’t planning on signing a 30-year-old defensive midfielder this summer. Their failed moves for Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo show that this is a position that needs filling long-term. Andre could still be the man to fill it.
