Report: 20-year-old Tottenham star Destiny Udogie suffers racist abuse
Tottenham Hotspur’s Destiny Udogie suffered racist abuse online following the club’s 2-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday.
The Lilywhites had failed to beat the Reds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since the opener, but finally put their poor form to rest this weekend.
Udogie’s fate was at the heart of Tottenham’s performance, but she was also involved in one of the game’s many controversies.
Diogo Jota received a yellow card when he appeared to have tripped the Spurs left-back, but replays showed the contact was extremely minimal and certainly unintentional.

Destiny Udogie was the victim of racist abuse online
Minutes later, now under yellow, Jota decided to step in and try to win the ball back from Udogie after the Liverpool star was dragged into the pocket. The result was a second yellow and a red.
Tottenham won the match thanks to a terrible VAR offside and a late Joel Matip own goal, and Udogie posted on Instagram to celebrate the victory.
Unfortunately, the Italian was the victim of numerous instances of racist insults in his comment and screenshots of racist insults have been circulating on social media. To make matters worse, media coverage of this case has been woefully poor. At The Spurs Web we condemn all forms of abuse on social media and urge true football fans to report any racist comments they come across. The world of football is more important than petty rivalries.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has praised Liverpool’s performance with nine players during Saturday’s controversial Premier League match.
Spurs won 2-1 thanks to a 96th-minute own goal from Joel Matip. Son Heung-min put the hosts ahead in the first half, turning Richarlison into the center before Cody Gakpo equalized from close range just before the break.
Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota received red cards in both halves, but the real point of contention came when the match ended at 0-0 and Liverpool were down to ten men. Luis Diaz found the net shortly after Jones’ dismissal, but was denied by an offside flag. However, replays showed the Colombian was clearly onside and the goal should have stood, but a miscommunication between referee Simon Hooper and VAR Darren England resulted in the goal being disallowed.
There was considerable outcry in the days that followed – including a statement from Liverpool calling for “vital improvements” to VAR processes – and the performance of all nine players took a back seat.
After the match, Spurs centre-back Van de Ven was happy that he and his teammates had finally managed to secure victory, but he admitted to being impressed by Liverpool.
“It’s really good in the locker room. I think the mentality of the whole team was very good,” said the Dutchman. “We kept pushing, pushing and pushing and obviously sometimes you think it would be easier if they got the red card or maybe two red cards, but you seem against Liverpool they are an excellent team.

“They made things even more difficult when they had ten, nine people on the pitch, but we kept pushing until the last minute and scored the winning goal.”
Van de Ven also played down the fact that Spurs are Premier League title contenders, saying: “It’s early to say. But hopefully now we can keep pushing and we’ll see where it ends up.”
“It’s too early to say whether we will be title contenders this year, but we will keep pushing, we will keep pushing and we will see. We want the best this season, so we’ll see where it ends up.
“We are not afraid of any team. We will continue to play our way and hopefully we can improve even more than how we are playing now and hopefully we can continue to push
Liverpool’s defeat ended their 19-match unbeaten run in all competitions, with red cards against Bournemouth and Newcastle United earlier this season having no impact on Jurgen Klopp’s side’s overall result.
