Zinedine Zidane has dropped a major hint he’s ready to make a sensational comeback to football management amid fresh links with the Manchester United job.
The French legend, who’s been out of the game since waving goodbye to Real Madrid back in May 2021, has had his name thrown into the hat for a host of top jobs over the last three years.
The likes of the Red Devils, Bayern Munich and even international gigs with the USA, Brazil, and Algeria have been mentioned as potential next steps for Zizou, but he’s kept us all guessing.

This week, the rumour mill went into overdrive when Zidane was clocked at a Real Betis training session, just as Erik ten Hag is feeling the heat in Manchester after a less-than-stellar start to the season.

Despite the Red Devils’ chiefs flirting with other managerial options like Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Gareth Southgate, it was Ten Hag who narrowly escaped the axe. But following a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford, Ten Hag’s future is looking anything but secure.

Zidane himself has fanned the flames of speculation. At a film premiere celebrating his old Juve boss Marcelo Lippi this February, Zizou faced the million-dollar question: Is he eyeing a return to the touchline, reports the Mirror.
“Why not, anything can happen,” he said on a potential return. “Now I’m doing other things, but we’ll see. I’d certainly like to return to the bench.”

However, the French football maestro has been taking a lengthy sabbatical from the pitch since then, holding out for a perfect match before returning to management. The iconic former player stressed his philosophy on picking the right project.
He told L’Equipe last year, saying: “Never say never.” He added: “Especially when you are a coach today. If I go back to a club, it is to win. I say this with all modesty. That’s why I can’t just go anywhere. For other reasons, too. Certain conditions make things more difficult.
“When someone says to me, ‘Do you want to go to Manchester [United]?’ I understand English but I don’t fully master it. I know there are coaches who go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work differently. To win, many elements come into play. It’s a global context.
“I know what I need to win. Of course, I might not always win, but I know that you need to have this, this and this. And I want to do everything on my side to optimise my chances of victory.”
