‘He Is Coming Back’ ‘Has To Start Ahead Of Gundogan’ Fans React As Guardiola Praises City Star’s Substitute Appearance
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised Phil Foden for his performance against Newcastle, calling it his best minutes of the season. Foden, who was a key player for the club last season, has been on the bench at the start of the new campaign. Guardiola sees Foden as one of the best in his position and is pleased with his progress in returning to form.
Supporters had mixed reactions to Guardiola’s comments, with some calling for Foden to be reinstated to the starting lineup while others questioned his recent performances. Foden has been dealing with fitness issues, including a virus that kept him out of action for a few games. City will be rotating their squad midweek for their Champions League match against Slovan Bratislava, with Foden expected to be back in the starting eleven.
Guardiola’s praise for Foden and the expectation that he will be back in the starting lineup for the Champions League match against Slovan Bratislava comes after a period of uncertainty and inconsistent performances from the midfielder. With City looking to rotate their squad, Foden will have the opportunity to prove himself and regain his form.
Former Manchester City midfielder Michael Brown has sparked debate by declaring Phil Foden superior to Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, despite Palmer’s impressive start to the season, according to Sportskeeda.
Brown, speaking on BBC Radio 5’s Football Daily podcast, asserted Foden’s exceptional talent puts him ahead. “At this moment in time, Phil Foden is ahead of Cole Palmer, yes, he’s a better player. He’s got more, can we see Palmer coming into aura, then yes, he isn’t at Foden’s level.”
Foden’s stellar 2023-24 campaign, with 27 goals and 12 assists, earned him the PFA Player of the Year award and helped Manchester City lift the Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup titles.
Palmer, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City for £40 million plus £2.5 million in add-ons, impressed with 27 goals and 15 assists in his debut season. This term, he has six goals and four assists in six Premier League games.
Brown acknowledged Palmer’s growth but emphasized Foden’s established status. “Listen, I can’t argue, he just scored four goals, mate, Phil’s not playing so yeah, I get it. I’ll get some kickback on it, it’s a nice question but Phil is just Phil Foden, isn’t he?”
