Man Utd News: Manchester United needs to drop one player if they want to get all 3 points against Aston Villa
Manchester United battled to a thrilling 3-3 draw with Porto in Thursday’s Europa League clash, according to Man Utd News.
Early goals from Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund gave the Red Devils a promising 2-0 lead.
However, the advantage was short-lived as Porto responded before the break, eventually taking the lead early in the second half.
In the dying moments of the game, Harry Maguire came to the rescue with a stoppage-time header, ensuring United left with a point. The defender, who was substituted on for the last 12 minutes, impressed during his short spell on the pitch.
He delivered a standout performance, completing all of his long balls and winning two out of three aerial duels. Maguire also achieved an 88% passing accuracy, adding one recovery and a crucial clearance to his tally.
Maguire’s contribution comes at a pivotal moment, following his exclusion from England’s squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures.
His performance could bolster his chances of securing a starting spot in United’s next Premier League fixture against Aston Villa. With Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran in top form, Maguire’s ability to handle physical forwards may prove vital for United.
Matthijs de Ligt, who struggled against Porto, may face pressure after a shaky performance where Samu Omorodion outmaneuvered him for two goals.
United can’t afford similar defensive lapses against Villa, and Maguire’s commanding presence might be the solution they need.
Manchester United have received a huge boost ahead of their upcoming Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday, with Aston Villa manager Unai Emery revealing that three key players may be sidelined due to injury concerns, according to Man Utd News.
Jacob Ramsey, Leon Bailey, and Amadou Onana are all doubtful for the crucial clash after picking up injuries in recent matches. Emery confirmed that the trio would be evaluated before a final decision is made regarding their availability.
“Both (Ramsey and Bailey) are doubts. I don’t know if they are going to be available for Sunday. He (Onana) is a doubt but I think he will be available,” Emery stated via Villa’s official website.
He added, “Tomorrow morning, even until Sunday morning maybe – Leon Bailey, Jacob Ramsey, Amadou Onana – and how they are recovering from the effort we did on Wednesday is going to be very, very important in my decision.”
Ramsey was forced to leave the pitch during the first half of Villa’s 1-0 win over Bayern Munich, while Bailey, who came on as his replacement, also had to be substituted after just over half an hour.
Onana, meanwhile, is dealing with a hamstring issue, though Emery remains more optimistic about his chances of playing.
For Manchester United, who have struggled in recent weeks, the absence of any of these key Villa players could offer a much-needed advantage.
United were soundly defeated by Tottenham Hotspur in their last league outing, and another loss could increase the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag,
whose position is under scrutiny.
