According to a report by Sky Sports, a Premier League club chief has criticized Manchester City for their recent legal actions, describing it as “bullying behavior.” This comes in response to City’s letter to top-flight teams, which threatened legal measures over issues with the Associated Party Transaction system.
The chief, whose name was not disclosed, expressed frustration over Manchester City’s approach, stating that there is growing sentiment among other clubs to push back against such tactics.
“This latest legal threat is just bullying behaviour by Man City and there is a feeling now that the other clubs need to stand up to them,” the official reportedly said, referencing Manchester City’s aggressive stance. The tribunal overseeing the matter had earlier determined that the system in question works but acknowledged that it requires certain changes.
The club chief also warned that Manchester City’s determination to pursue another costly legal battle could backfire. “If City are determined to have another costly legal battle, then it could well backfire,” the official noted, suggesting that the club’s ongoing disputes might alienate them further within the Premier League.
As tensions rise between Manchester City and other top-flight clubs, the focus remains on how these legal battles will impact the broader competition. The Premier League is yet to comment on the matter, but the ongoing friction suggests that a resolution could be a long and contentious process.

Manchester City have reportedly agreed a deal to bring in their first January transfer.
During the summer transfer window, City brought in winger Savinho from Troyes and also completed a free transfer to bring back midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
In truth, City’s squad did not need any big additions as they have managed to win four Premier League titles in a row.
However, during City’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal, key man Rodri was forced off due to injury and is set to miss the remainder of the season.
On the severity of Rodri’s injury, manager Pep Guardiola said: “He had surgery this morning, ACL and some meniscus. Next season he will be here. This season is over [for him]. It is what it is.
“Unfortunately, we got the worst [news] but it is what it is at this level. Sometimes, unfortunately, it happens. We are just there to support him and [help him make a] good recovery, step by step, and move forward.”
With the January transfer window coming up, it has been claimed that City are close to securing their first signing.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano wrote on social media: “Manchester City will sign 2007 born talented left back Christian McFarlane in January 2025, deal sealed as expected.
“Man City Academy and City Football Group to bring in another huge talent as from US after Cavan Sullivan.”

Earlier in the week, it was reported that City have set aside £80 million to invest in the squad during the winter transfer window.
On the back of the Rodri injury, it has been suggested that City could move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
The 25-year-old Spaniard was previously linked with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and rejected a move to Liverpool this summer.

Speaking about Zubimendi last month, Liverpool boss Arne Slot said: “There is no point talking about Zubimendi anymore because he stayed with Real Sociedad and we’ve moved on and we are really happy with Ryan (Gravenberch).
“You see a Ryan who is full of confidence and that comes normally with good performances and trusting your team-mates and knowing that you can do what you have to at that level.”
