Manchester City have rejected a request from River Plater to leave youngster Claudio Echeverri at the club for another six months.

That’s according to AS, relaying information from ESPN Argentina, explaining that Manchester City have refused to let the midfielder remain in Argentina for longer.

They explain that Echeverri is ‘red hot’ at this moment in time and staying in Argentina would have been a ‘utopia’ for him and River Plate.

His time at the club is set to end in December after they and Manchester City agreed a deal for him in January that saw him loaned back to the Argentine side until the end of the year.

He’s proven to be a vital player for River Plate this season and that led them to contact Manchester City and ask if the loan deal could be extended.

However, the Premier League champions have ‘no intention’ of allowing that to happen. In fact, they want Echeverri to bolster Pep Guardiola’s options in January transfer window.

Talks are still underway between both, and the Argentines dream of convincing their English counterparts but so far, everything indicates that dream won’t become a reality.
