We bought the best player for free: Manchester United Board should be charged to court for selling him for free

Manchester United chose to part ways with Scott McTominay during the summer transfer window, with the Scotland international sealing a €30.5 million (£25.7m/$33.6m) move to Napoli. Since joining Antonio Conte’s side, McTominay has emerged as one of the standout performers, contributing two goals and an assist in his last three appearances.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, on the other hand, have stooped to new lows as they are winless in their last five matches and have only won three times in their opening 11 games of the season. The Red Devils have struggled massively in midfield with Casemiro’s woes continuing and new signing Manuel Ugarte, seen as McTominay’s replacement, has been unable to find his feet at Old Trafford just yet. Di Canio has now suggested that United’s directors should be arrested for allowing McTominay to leave the leave club.

WHAT DI CANIO SAID

Speaking to Il Mattino, Di Canio said: “I would go to those at Manchester United to arrest all the directors: but how can you give McTominay away? There is someone like [David] Neres who is a reserve. [Billy] Gilmour at Brighton has shown that he has the same characteristics of coming out with the ball at his feet and lucidity as [Stanislav] Lobotka.”

WHAT NEXT FOR MCTOMINAY?

The 27-year-old is currently with the Scotland national team as they look forward to their next clash against Croatia on Saturday, October 12 before they face Portugal on October 15.

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has ripped into the club’s manager this week.

Rooney was on the Stick to Football podcast with the likes of Gary Neville and Roy Keane.

He spoke about United boss Erik ten Hag’s decision to take off Marcus Rashford at half-time of their 3-3 draw with FC Porto recently.

Speaking on Stick to Football, Plymouth boss Rooney said: “Some of the changes he is making… You never see top teams changing their centre-backs during the game – or the back four – and that happens on a regular basis.

‘The Rashford one… That was the best I’ve seen him play (v Porto) for a long time and to take him off at half-time and say we’ve got another game at the weekend is crazy.

“I guarantee on this international break you see videos of him training with a coach away from the training ground – so if he can’t do two games in a week, he should have been resting.”

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has launched a scathing attack on Christian Eriksen, labeling the midfielder a “fool” for publicly admitting that the team’s players lacked desire this season, according to Metro.

Eriksen’s comments came after United’s 1-1 draw with FC Twente in the Europa League, where he suggested that the opposition wanted it more. Keane, known for his uncompromising views, was left unimpressed.

“I even go back to the FC Twente game and when the players came out after the match, it was Eriksen, again a really poor game, oh my goodness, and when players come out [and say], ‘I think they might have wanted it more than us’, I kind of gave up at that stage,” Keane said on The Overlap.

Keane’s criticism didn’t stop at Eriksen, as he questioned the team’s overall dynamics and leadership. “If that’s the noises coming out of the dressing room, then no wonder the manager is in trouble, no wonder they’re not going to win football matches, that’s it.”

The former United captain also took aim at Harry Maguire, suggesting that handing him the captaincy just five months after his arrival was “unfair” on the rest of the squad.

“You’re on about decision making and managers, Harry Maguire walks into United, obviously new club for him, the worry for me is Harry comes into the club and he was given the captaincy – what does that say about the rest of the group?” Keane asked.

Keane’s comments come at a time when United is struggling to find consistency, with three consecutive winless games piling pressure on manager Erik ten Hag.
