Match Day Preview: West Ham Utd vs Manchester Utd lineup, injury news and match updates

Manchester United aims to secure consecutive Premier League victories when they face West Ham United on Sunday, according to Manchester Evening News. Bruno Fernandes’ return from suspension bolsters Erik ten Hag’s lineup amidst an injury crisis.

Fernandes’ leadership and creative spark will be crucial in driving United forward. His absence was deeply felt in the 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce. Manager Erik ten Hag faces significant challenges with key players sidelined, including Antony, Jonny Evans, Mason Mount, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo.

Noussair Mazraoui, who filled in as a No. 10 against Fenerbahce, will likely return to his familiar full-back role. This tactical adjustment will provide stability and width. United’s depth and Fernandes’ return make them favorites.

West Ham’s away form will test United’s resilience, but Fernandes’ presence could prove decisive. A win would propel Manchester United up the Premier League standings, reinforcing their top-four ambitions.

With Fernandes leading the charge, Manchester United is poised for success against West Ham on Sunday.

Manchester United head coach Erik Ten Hag has once again defended his decision to deploy right-back Noussair Mazraoui in a midfield role during the Europa League match. In a post-match conference, Ten Hag emphasized that the move was necessary given the challenges of playing away from home in a European fixture.

“Away from home in Europe, hectic ambience, to start with four attackers is too much,” Ten Hag explained, highlighting the intense atmosphere his side faced. He added that Mazraoui is versatile enough to handle the midfield role, having previously adapted to different positions under his management. “Nous is very capable to play that position. I made him a full-back, when he played No 10,” the Dutch tactician stated.

Ten Hag also pointed out Mazraoui’s contribution in the build-up to Christian Eriksen’s goal, noting that his involvement in the press and ability to support forward Joshua Zirkzee was crucial to the team’s overall play. “He was helping midfield, supporting Zirkzee in pressing, big part of goal for Eriksen,” Ten Hag concluded.
