Patrice Evra becomes first ex-Man Utd player to react to Erik ten Hag’s sacking with six-word response
The former United defender has already responded to the news.
Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has broken his silence on the sacking of Erik ten Hag as manager.
It was confirmed by United on Monday morning that Ten Hag would be leaving the club immediately following his most recent Premier League defeat to West Ham.
Ten Hag leaves the club after two full seasons at Old Trafford, with the Dutchman winning both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his time with the club.
The club have released the following statement to confirm the news: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.
“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
Following the news being confirmed by the club on social media, Evra became the first connected to the club to have their say with a rather satirical six word comment.
“Let’s wait for the V. A. R guys,” Evra commented on Instagram.
Evra was likely referencing the extremely controversial VAR decision made during the dying moments of Sunday’s defeat to West Ham involving Matthijs de Ligt and Danny Ings.
Referee David Coote initially did not give anything, but was then called over to the pitchside monitor by the VAR, where he opted to award a spot kick.

Following the game, Ten Hag slammed the ‘injustice’ of the decision: “When you take so long in a very messy situation and if you have to consider if it’s either a penalty or not, then it’s clear it’s not penalty because it has such a big impact on the score of this game.
“The refereeing should take the responsibility, that is the third time that we really feel injustice and that is clear,” he added.
United’s next game is against Chelsea on Sunday the 3rd of November, where it is likely Van Nistelrooy will take charge.
