Breaking: Manchester United and Ruben Amorim strick new deal
Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Ruben Amorim to become their next manager, and there’s increasing confidence he could take charge of Sunday’s Premier League match against Chelsea.
Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that United will pay a €10m exit clause to bring Amorim, Sporting Lisbon’s current coach, to Old Trafford.
The club placed the 39-year-old at the top of their list to replace Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed on Monday With Amorim is believed to be keen on taking the position.
Manchester United initiated talks with Amorim’s camp in early October, prior to the last international break. The club initially planned to replace Ten Hag during a meeting in London, and Amorim expressed immediate interest.
However, there were two major concerns for United. Firstly, Amorim preferred to leave Sporting at the end of the season, and secondly, the release clause could have reached up to €20m.
Manchester United announced the departure of manager Erik ten Hag yesterday after a disappointing 2-1 loss to West Ham United in the Premier League.
The decision comes as United continues to struggle for form.
Following the announcement, former United star Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed as caretaker manager. Club sources indicate that United plans to make a permanent appointment soon, with Ruben Amorim, Sporting CP’s head coach, emerging as the top candidate.
According to reports, Amorim has already agreed to join, and United is ready to meet his release clause.
Known for his tactical preference for a 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 formation, Amorim is likely to bring these plans to United, raising expectations for a fresh approach to the team’s defensive structure.
With summer investments like Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, Amorim’s potential arrival has stirred excitement among fans who look forward to seeing a robust backline.
While De Ligt has solidified his place beside Lisandro Martinez, Yoro is expected to soon return from injury, with the hope that he will complete a formidable trio in United’s defense.

At wing-back, Diogo Dalot could thrive under Amorim’s system, offering additional depth in attack. On the opposite flank, Moroccan full-back Noussair Mazraoui, with his versatility on both wings, is expected to bring more dynamic play.
