Just a few days after League games in Europe, the UEFA Champions League returned to action on Tuesday night with numerous interesting and entertaining games for football lovers to enjoy. The new League phase made the competition more difficult, with big teams scheduled to face each other from day one of the tournament.
PSV and Dinamo Zagreb played early on Tuesday evening, with the former running riot against Girona, while Zagreb put four past Slovan Bratislava. New Manchester United boss Ruben Amorin hosted Premier League giants, Manchester City in Portugal tonight. Phil Foden opened the scoring for Pep for City just a few minutes into the first half, but Sporting striker Gyokeres equalized to level the score.
Things went from fair to worse for Pep Guardiola and his boys as the upcoming Manchester United manager outclassed them tactically and thrashed City 4-1.
Real Madrid hosted AC Milan at the Santiago Berbeau Stadium. The visitors opened the scoring after Christian Pulisic assisted Thiaw, but Vinicius was quick to equalize the game with a spot kick. Despite Madrid’s first half dominance, Alvaro Morata scored to put Milan in front before half-time.
Liverpool and Bayern Leverkusen battled it out at the Anfield Stadium as Xabi Alonso reunited with his former club. The game was fun to watch, with both sides displaying an attacking style of football from end to end throughout the game. However, the game took a different dimension when Liverpool opened the scoring, goals started raining and Arne Slot went home with three points.

Italian Team AC Milan won big at the Santiago Benerbeu Stadium the home of Real Madrid football club of Spain. Milan’s Malick Thiaw opened scoring in the 12th minutes to put the visitors in the lead but Real Madrid leveled about 11 minutes later from the Penalty Spot through Vinicius Junior’s strike to make it 1-1. Former Atletico Madrid’s Star Alvaro Morata made it 1-2 in the 38th minutes to give the visitors the Lead at halftime. Even though Real Madrid tried their best in making the second half count for their hardwork, AC Milan’s Tijani Reijnders punished Hosts and defending Champions in the 72nd minutes to make it 1-3, as Madrid were condemned to a painful defeat at home by an Italian side.
England’s Giant Man City Were never spared on the great Champions League night from the surprise that hit fellow European big side Madrid. The English side were punished by Man United to be Manager’s side Sporting Lisbon in Portugal. The visiting Man City opened scoring in just 4 minutes of action by Phil Foden but Sweden’s Gyokeres leveled for Sporting Lisbon in the 38th minute to end the half in a draw. Sporting returned to the second half heavily with the second goal by Araujo just a minutes into the second half to make it 2-1 for the Host while City delved into pressure. Viktor Gyokeres scored Sporting’s 3rd goal from the Penalty Spot in the 49th minutes to make it a surprising 3-1 while he completed his hattrick in the 80th minute also from the Penalty Spot to earn Sporting Lisbon a convincing 4-1 victory in Portugal. City were condemned to their 3rd successive defeat since April 2018 as it was also their heaviest defeat since September 2020. Liverpool are the team that made England proud on the night after beating Bayern Leverkusen of Germany by 4-0. Thanks to Diaz who got a wonderful hattrick and Gakpo who concluded the Havoc.
As it Stands, Liverpool 100% to the season has earned them 12 points, putting them ahead of Sporting Lisbon who also won big on the night by 2 points in the second position. Man City are currently 6th on the Champions table with 7 points while Real Madrid are 17th with 6 points.
