Manchester United’s target Viktor Gyokeres has reportedly intensified, with a “gentleman’s agreement” in place for a €76 million (£63 million)
Manchester United’s pursuit of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has reportedly intensified, with a “gentleman’s agreement” in place for a €76 million (£63 million) transfer next summer, according to SportMole. This development coincides with Ruben Amorim, Gyokeres’ current manager at Sporting, set to take over as Manchester United’s head coach.
Gyokeres has been prolific for Sporting, netting 66 goals in 67 matches, including 23 goals in 17 appearances this season. His exceptional scoring record has attracted significant attention, making him a highly sought-after player in the transfer market.
Ruben Amorim hinted at Gyokeres’ likely departure, stating, “Viktor has to stay until the end of the season, and then his life will probably go somewhere else.” This suggests that Gyokeres may soon be leaving Sporting Lisbon.
Should the transfer occur, Gyokeres is expected to become Manchester United’s primary striker, potentially replacing Rasmus Hojlund. Arsenal and Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the situation, adding competitive pressure to any summer move. Gyokeres’ addition would strengthen United’s attack, addressing concerns about their goal-scoring capabilities.
Meanwhile, current striker Rasmus Hojlund, who has scored 18 goals in 50 appearances, has faced criticism. Interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has defended Hojlund, urging patience and confidence in his abilities. “My advice? Stay calm and believe in himself, believe in his qualities. Like I do and his teammates do,” van Nistelrooy said.
Although Gyokeres remains focused on Sporting Lisbon for now, the rumored agreement and Amorim’s remarks point towards a probable transfer in the summer.
Manchester United have recently made inquiries regarding the potential transfer of Leroy Sané from Bayern Munich, as the talented winger appears to be on the verge of leaving the Allianz Arena.
According to reports from BILD, the Premier League club is keen on securing Sané’s signature in the upcoming January transfer window. With his current contract entering its final months, there is a possibility that he could be available as a free agent next summer. However, Manchester United is exploring the option of acquiring the 27-year-old earlier to bolster their squad.
According to Daily post, the Red Devils have faced significant challenges this season, which culminated in the dismissal of manager Erik ten Hag. His departure has prompted the club to reassess its strategy as they seek to strengthen their attacking options. United appointed Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim to take the helm starting November 11, and the club is eager to provide him with the tools necessary to turn their fortunes around.
As they look towards January, Manchester United recognizes the urgent need for improvements to their offensive lineup, and bringing in a player of Sané’s caliber could be a vital step in revitalizing the team’s performance. With the club’s ambitions in mind, they are focused on creating a competitive squad under Amorim’s leadership.
