He and some others will not be part of my team….I want a team that can give good results
Harry Maguire could be given a reprieve at Manchester United
Ruben Amorim will reportedly be given the final say on if Harry Maguire remains at Manchester United or not, after the defender succeeded in his goal to outlast Erik ten Hag before making a decision on his own future.
Maguire’s United career has had many peaks and troughs. Under Ten Hag, he was stripped of the captaincy at the club, and pushed down the pecking order.
He saw Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro signed, but has remained at the club.
The Englishman is out of contract at the end of the season, but he could be saved by new boss Amorim.
Former Premier League scout Mick Brown, speaking to Football Insider, suggested the manager will make the decision on whether Maguire stays at the club or not.
“His contract will be a big issue that the new boss has to sort out. Whether that means extending his deal or letting him go, Amorim will make that call,” Brown said.
“He was out of favour under Ten Hag for whatever reason, and if he stayed in charge I think Maguire would’ve probably been allowed to leave. But now with Amorim coming in, he’ll give him a chance to impress and earn his place.”
Brown expects Maguire to play under Amorim
If he can prove his worth, Brown expects Maguire to be one of Amorim’s centre-backs in his 3-4-3 formation.
“The new manager wants to come in and play three at the back. In that case, I would expect Harry Maguire to be one of those three,” he said.
“He’ll have to get fit first, but once he returns to training I’m sure Amorim will have a close look at him because he fits that system perfectly.”
It follows reports that Maguire was hoping to outlast Ten Hag at United before making a call on his own future, as the manager wanted to sell him.
Man Utd round-up: United after some big names
One centre-back who could move through the door is Jarrad Branthwaite, as Dan Ashworth feels the Everton man would fit Amorim’s system.
United are also said to be in the market for a new striker, with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres on the radar, amid interest in both of those men from Bayern Munich.
It’s also believed that Amorim has interest in Dusan Vlahovic, and could let Joshua Zirkzee go in that move.
Geovany Quenda is also on the manager’s radar, as he wants to pick him up from current side Sporting CP, though there are a lot of other clubs giving United competition.

Ruben Amorim is set to bring his staff to Man Utd.
Sporting sensation Viktor Gyokeres has let slip that his current gaffer Ruben Amorim is set to overhaul Manchester United’s coaching team upon his managerial takeover.
Having been anointed United’s new master tactician, Amorim will grasp the reins officially come November 11. He’s slated for one final showdown at the helm of Sporting against Braga on Sunday, a day earlier.
Amorim’s swansong at home couldn’t have gone much smoother with a stunning 4-1 demolition of Manchester City in the Champions League.
Gyokeres stole the limelight as he netted a phenomenal hat-trick against City, with Maximiliano Araujo adding fuel to the Sporting blaze.
While Amorim’s entourage at Old Trafford is still under wraps, murmurs suggest he’ll import a quartet of coaches alongside a sports scientist, all poised for the migration to Manchester.
Quizzed about the upcoming shift, Gyokeres confirmed the exodus of several essential figures from Sporting.
“We will miss him a lot. We’ve done amazing things together,” the 26-year-old striker told UEFA.
“We will miss him and the other guys in the staff who will leave. We have to look forward and attack the next challenge ahead of us.”
Viktor Gyokeres has been linked to Man Utd.

He added, reflecting on Tuesday’s triumph: “It’s always nice to score and even better to score a hat-trick. Most important was to win the game so it was a brilliant night for us.
“We knew it was going to be tough and we didn’t start off well. We knew they would give us space and we could have scored more than four to be fair.
“They could have scored more as well. You need to raise your level when you play better opponents. I tried to keep doing what I’ve been doing.”
Amorim, on the other hand, sought to downplay the result post-match. He explained: “What I can tell you is that this [result] doesn’t mean anything in particular – don’t take anything from this.
“We cannot transport one reality to another. Manchester United cannot play the way we play, and we will have to adapt.
“It’s misleading. We were very lucky today, but the feeling with my players, the way they celebrate with the fans was very special.
“I take this with me, but when I arrive to the Premier League it is a different world, different pressure. It will be fun, very fun, and I’m ready for the challenge.”
What the arrival of Amorim’s coaching staff will mean for current United interim Ruud van Nistelrooy, Rene Hake, and the rest of Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff, many of whom joined in the summer, remains to be seen.
