This is why we are loosing games it has not happened before – Pep Guardiola explains

Manchester City’s recent slump has left fans and pundits alike scratching their heads. The Citizens have suffered four consecutive defeats, a first in Pep Guardiola’s managerial career. Here are some key factors contributing to their recent struggles:

Injury Crisis: Manchester City’s injury list has grown, with key players like Kevin De Bruyne, Aymeric Laporte, and Phil Foden sidelined. This has disrupted Guardiola’s plans and forced him to field makeshift lineups.

Defensive Vulnerabilities: Manchester City’s defense, once considered one of the best in the league, has shown signs of weakness. Individual errors and lack of coordination have cost them dearly.

Lack of Depth: Guardiola’s reluctance to rotate his squad has exposed Manchester City’s lack of depth. The team’s bench has failed to provide impactful substitutes, allowing opponents to capitalize.

Tactical Inflexibility: Guardiola’s tactics have been questioned, with some critics arguing that his possession-based approach has become too predictable. Opponents have successfully nullified Manchester City’s attack.

Mental Fatigue: The team’s intense schedule and high expectations have taken a toll on the players. Mental fatigue has crept in, affecting their performance and decision-making.

Opposition’s Tactical Awareness: Teams have studied Manchester City’s tactics and developed effective counter-measures. Opponents are now better equipped to handle Guardiola’s strategies.

Goalkeeping Concerns: Ederson’s recent errors have raised concerns about his form and focus. Manchester City’s goalkeeping department has not been as solid as in previous seasons.

Lack of Clinical Finishing: Manchester City’s attack, usually clinical and ruthless, has struggled to finish chances. Erling Haaland’s goals have dried up, and the supporting cast has failed to step up.

According to Metro, Pep Guardiola has confirmed that he confronted Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke over his physical clash with Erling Haaland following Manchester City’s 2-1 defeat at the AMEX Stadium on Saturday.

This marks the first time in his managerial career that Guardiola has overseen four consecutive losses, with City now trailing Premier League leaders Liverpool by two points.

Haaland had put City ahead in the first half, but Brighton mounted a strong second-half comeback. Substitute Joao Pedro equalized with 12 minutes remaining, and another substitute, Matt O’Riley, scored the winner on his Premier League debut.

The incident between Haaland and Van Hecke occurred in injury time when the two had a physical confrontation in the Brighton penalty area. Haaland pulled Van Hecke to the ground, leading to both players receiving yellow cards. After the match, Guardiola spoke to Van Hecke, commenting on the incident: “That he was strong with Erling, and when Erling then stands up, you have to stand up. He cannot go to the grass. Stay strong, no? You pull him all the game, then after the fight, you stay there.”

Guardiola also praised Van Hecke’s overall performance, adding, “But he played a really good game and congratulations to Brighton.”

Regarding City’s recent struggles, Guardiola pointed to the club’s mounting injury problems. “The point is we don’t have players,” he explained. “I have four central defenders, and not one of them is there, all four are injured.” Key players like Rodri, Kevin de Bruyne, and Jack Grealish are sidelined, further exacerbating the situation. Guardiola acknowledged that while his team can perform well in one-off games, maintaining consistency has been difficult with such a depleted squad. He admitted that the primary difference between this season and previous ones is the lack of depth: “We had the squad, now we don’t have it.” Despite this, he emphasized the need to adapt and

continue pushing forward.
