Transfer News: Manchester United reportedly preparing player-plus-cash swap deal to secure the services of Victor Osimhen

According to a report by Football Transfers, Manchester United are reportedly preparing a high-stakes player-plus-cash swap deal to secure the services of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen in the 2025 summer transfer window. The Napoli star, currently on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray, has attracted interest from several European heavyweights, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Italian outlet Il Mattino (via Sport Witness), United are planning to offer €40 million plus Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee to convince Napoli to part ways with their prized asset. Zirkzee, who joined United last summer, has struggled to make an impact under new head coach Ruben Amorim, prompting the club to explore using him as leverage in a deal for Osimhen.

Napoli recently lowered Osimhen’s release clause to €75 million, signaling their willingness to negotiate a transfer. However, reports suggest the Serie A side remains adamant that any suitor must meet the full release clause. Osimhen’s stellar form at Galatasaray—where he has tallied eight goals and five assists in 11 appearances—has only added to his appeal. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €63.1 million, making him one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe.

While United are keen to bolster their attacking options, the emergence of Rasmus Hojlund has complicated the picture. The 21-year-old Dane delivered a standout performance in Thursday’s 3-2 Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt, netting a brace and showcasing his potential as the Red Devils’ long-term No. 9. Speaking after the match, Hojlund expressed confidence in his development under Amorim’s system.

“I think the new system and new ideas are suiting my style of play,” Hojlund said. “I’m still very young, but I want to take responsibility and step up. That’s why I took the No.9 shirt this year. I’m not the finished article yet, but I’m working to get there.”

As the summer transfer window approaches, Manchester United will face tough competition for Osimhen, with Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly monitoring his availability. Whether the Red Devils’ proposed swap deal will tempt Napoli remains to be seen, but the Nigerian’s addition could elevate United’s attack to new heights.
