Man Utd fans voice opinions on Marcus Rashford with banner during Tottenham defeat

A section of Manchester United fans expressed their frustration with Marcus Rashford following his recent comments about seeking a “new challenge.”

Rashford was left out of the United squad that suffered a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in Thursday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final, with head coach Rúben Amorim explaining the decision was tactical.

While Amorim has kept the door open for Rashford amid speculation about his future, some fans made their disappointment clear during the match. A banner unfurled by a group of supporters read: “Excuses. Ta ra, Marcus”—a reference to the famous 1989 message directed at then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson: “Three years of excuses and it’s still crap. Ta Ra Fergie.”

Amorim criticized Rashford’s public comments, warning they were bound to trigger a predictable media frenzy. “It’s not helpful for him or the team,” Amorim stated, emphasizing the need for focus amid the growing speculation.

Despite Amorim’s insistence on wanting to keep Rashford, reports suggest the club is open to offers for the academy graduate, potentially valuing him at as little as £40m. Rashford is said to be interested in a move to La Liga, where Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid are reportedly monitoring the situation.

While there is significant interest from Saudi Arabia, Rashford is believed to prefer staying in Europe at this stage of his career.
