On Monday, Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt shared his prediction for the all-Big Ten showdown during his podcast, “The Joel Klatt Show.” As 2.5 point favorites (ESPN BET), Klatt thinks the Buckeyes get the job done this time around. However, it wasn’t an easy pick to make. “I have gone both ways on this,” Klatt said. “Ohio State 42, Oregon 41. Oregon covers because they’re getting two and a half, and Ohio State wins and moves on. This game should be incredible.” The Ohio State Buckeyes and Oregon Ducks are set to face off for the second time this season. Their first meeting in Eugene was a nail-biter, with the Ducks edging out a 32-31 victory over the Buckeyes. Despite the outcome, plenty of experts still believe these two teams are the two best in college football.
Ohio State enters the rematch with an 11-2 record, their only other loss coming against Michigan. The Buckeyes are fresh off a dominant 42-17 win over No. 9 Tennessee in the first round. Now, they face the task of slowing down Oregon’s explosive offense, which averages 35.9 points per game and gave them plenty of trouble in their last matchup. Notably, Ohio State has held every other opponent this season to 17 points or fewer.
Oregon, on the other hand, will aim to take advantage an injury-plagued Ohio State offensive line. The undefeated Ducks have shown some defensive vulnerabilities outside of the first Ohio State game, allowing 30+ points in their two other matchups against CFP teams this season: 34 to Boise State and 37 to Penn State. Expect the team who wins the rushing game to to advance to the seminfinals to face the winner of the Texas-Arizona State game. Kickoff between Ohio State-Oregon is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET.
