Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat singer, has shared his opinion regarding the detention of Naira Marley over the death of singer Mohbad.

The 27-year-old ex-Marlian Records signee died on September 12. He was buried the following day.

The circumstances surrounding his death have continued to stir up controversies on social media.

Naira Marley, the Marlian Records boss, is a person of interest in the death of the fast-rising singer.

The Lagos police detained the record label boss on October 3 for interrogation while the following day, a magistrate court sitting in Yaba held that he be remanded for 21 days.

In a recent Instagram live session on Saturday, Seun claimed he financed the renovation of Panti cell when he was released.

The singer also teased that Marley “can enjoy my charity” at the state criminal investigation department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba.

“When I left the Panti cell, do you know the first thing I did when I got home? I gave my people money to renovate that cell, to change the toilet, shower, and paint the walls,” he said.

“I paid for it out of my pocket because I realized I could end up back there tomorrow. At least, Naira can enjoy my charity there.”

On May 15, Seun was apprehended after he was filmed assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge.

He was detained and arraigned before the magistrate’s court in Yaba the following day.

But Adeola Olatubosun, the chief magistrate, ordered the police to detain him for an additional 48 hours and release him on bail.

Olatubuson later extended Seun’s remand for an additional four days to allow the police to continue with their investigation.

Seun was released to his family on May 23 after spending eight days in police custody.
