Man Utd plot £120million January move for Napoli’s Osimhen

Manchester United have added Super Eagles and Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen, to the club’s list of targets during the January transfer window.

According to ESPN, United are monitoring Osimhen, who has continued his fine form for Napoli, scoring six goals in 10 games after leading the team to their first Serie A title last season.

It’s unclear if the Glazers will submit a bid for Osimhen in January, with Napoli set to demand a fee in the region of £120 million.

Osimhen has stalled over signing a new contract with Napoli after the club’s official account appeared to mock Osimhen after he missed a penalty in a 0-0 draw against Bologna last month, an act that brought condemnation from the player’s agent, Roberto Calenda, and a formal apology from Napoli officials.

Eric Ten Hag’ Manchester is desperate to mark for transfers in the summer, but the team has struggled in front of goal, with Marcus Rashford failing to shoulder the front line this season.

Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho commands a price on par with the elite players in the Premier League. The Argentine got his big break into the United’s senior team in 2022 and continued to impress the footballing world.

Garnacho earned his promotion from the prestigious United Academy while the Red Devils were under the interim management of Ralf Rangnick. The Argentinian saw his reputation rise further under the guidance of current manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag used the 19-year-old as a late substitute during the last season so that the youngster could target tired opposition. Garnacho has appeared in nine games this season for the Red Devils in all competitions contributing with one goal.

The CIES Football Observatory (h/t Manchester Evening News) has put the valuation of the youngster at €60m (approximately £50m). The valuation puts Garnacho at par with the likes of James Maddison, Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva, Reece James, and Ederson.

Furthermore, the Argentinian is worth as much as his senior teammates like Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount, Lisandro Martinez, and Jadon Sancho.

Bruno Fernandes, Antony, and Marcus Rashford are the only senior team members who received a bigger valuation than Garnacho. The only teenager valued higher than the Argentinian is Barcelona prodigy Gavi.

Ten Hag has managed Garnacho‘s usage wisely, avoiding the pressure that often accompanies wearing the United jersey. The 19-year-old’s pace, trickery, and technique have been a critical asset for the club to expose opposition defense.
