BREAKING:Four-star recruit Zelus Hicks, a safety from Georgia commits to Texas for 2025 season!!

Georgia safety Zelus Hicks, a four-star recruit in the class of 2026, verbally committed to Texas on Thursday, according to On3 Recruits.

Hicks picked the Longhorns over Ohio State, Clemson, Tennessee, Auburn, and his two state schools, Georgia and Georgia Tech. According to 247 Sports, the 6-foot-2 recruit is ranked 10th in his state and seventh among safety prospects in the 2026 class.

Before moving to Carrollton, a football powerhouse in Georgia, this summer, Hicks recorded 67 tackles (5.5 TFL), two sacks, two pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in his sophomore season at Lilburn’s Parkview. After his first season at Parkview, Hicks received an invitation to the FBU Freshman All-American Bowl and was hailed by 247 Sports as a “high performer.”

It is possible that Texas will be able to welcome safety to the Forty Acres one year ahead of schedule. According to reports, Hicks is thinking about moving up to the 2025 class, although nothing is official just yet.

Hicks’ pledge would make it the third member of the Longhorns’ 2026 class and their first defensive player if he plays his last two seasons at Carrollton. The team’s initial commit on June 17 was Dia Bell, a four-star quarterback from Fort Lauderdale, followed eight days later by Chris Stewart, a three-star receiver from Pearland.

Texas would add to its already full class of 2025 recruits if Hicks were to reclassify. A five-star safety from Galveston named Jonah Williams is the Longhorns’ top recruit for the 2025 class. Together with four-star linebacker Elijah Barnes and four-star edge rusher Lance Jackson, Hicks and Williams would make up a formidable back-end combination for defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski’s scheme.
