Pep Guardiola has expressed his concerns about Manchester City’s starting line-up against Real Madrid due to injuries.

City will host Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League play-offs on Tuesday.

The Premier League champions have been battling with injuries this campaign with the likes of Rodri, Jeremy Doku sidelined.

Speaking during his presser on Monday, Guardiola said though they are looking forward to the clash but he is having headache with his starting 11.

“We are where we are and I know perfectly. But, the team has something special and hopefully tomorrow we can prove it.

“I know the gameplan tomorrow. I still have doubts about the selection as we still have injuries… I am always optimistic and calm. We will see what happens… I am sure the players are looking forward to the game tomorrow.

“It is a pleasure to play in the Champions League… and it is an honour so hopefully our fans can help us.”

The Spaniard admitted that the Cityzens were poor in the group stage so deserve to be in the play-offs.

“In the group stage or knockout stage it is always difficult against them [Real Madrid]. We did not do well in the group stage so we deserve to be here. The draw is the draw and we accept the challenge.”

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed concerns about his team’s performance consistency as they prepare to face Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League playoff tie. Despite a previous 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the semi-final two seasons ago, Guardiola acknowledges the current challenges, including the absence of key players like Rodri due to injuries.

This season, City has experienced 11 losses, a stark contrast to their past consistent performances that led to Trebles and Quadruples. Guardiola emphasized the importance of support from fans and the need to manage the game effectively against Real Madrid’s strong attacking lineup, which includes Vinícius Jr, Rodrygo, Kylian Mbappé, and Jude Bellingham.

Additionally, Guardiola highlighted the challenge of containing Real Madrid’s formidable attack throughout the tie, acknowledging the exceptional talent and synergy of Real’s front four. He emphasized the need to limit their impact on the game as much as possible.

Despite Real Madrid’s defensive injuries, Guardiola remains cautious, recognizing their ability to perform well under pressure. He praised Real’s consistent performance and the strength of their formidable attack, including Kylian Mbappé.
