CONGRATULATIONS: Alyssa Washington, a standout infielder for the Texas Longhorns softball team, has announced her return for the upcoming 2025 season.

This decision comes after a remarkable 2024 season, where she earned All-Big 12 Conference Second Team honors, boasting a .279 batting average over 65 games, with 48 hits, 30 runs, 10 doubles, five home runs, and 35 RBIs.

In 2024, Washington made history by becoming the first softball player in program history to wear the captain’s ‘C’ on her jersey, a testament to her leadership and dedication.

Her return is expected to provide a significant boost to the Longhorns as they transition into their first year in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The team is currently off to a strong start with an 11โ€“0 record.

Head Coach Mike White, now in his seventh season, expressed enthusiasm about Washington’s return, stating, “Alyssa’s leadership and experience are invaluable assets to our team. Her commitment exemplifies the spirit and determination we strive for.”

Washington’s journey with the Longhorns has been marked by resilience and personal milestones. In 2021, she faced the tragic loss of her father but honored his memory with a memorable home run, dedicating the moment to her mother.

As the Longhorns embark on their inaugural SEC season, Washington’s presence is anticipated to be a cornerstone of the team’s success, both on and off t

he field.
