He is the 24th and current head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, a position he has held since 2019. Before taking over as head coach, Day served as the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Urban Meyer. In 2018, he was the interim head coach for the first three games while Meyer served a suspension, leading Ohio State to a 3-0 start.

 

Day played college football at the University of New Hampshire from 1998 to 2001, where he was a quarterback and linebacker for the Wildcats. He played under offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, whose fast-paced offensive philosophy would later influence Day’s coaching style. After graduating, Day began his coaching career in 2002 as a graduate assistant at New Hampshire, marking the start of a journey that included stops at several college programs and the NFL.

 

Throughout his career, Day has been known for his offensive expertise. Before joining Ohio State, he held coaching positions at Boston College, Temple, and Florida, among others. He also spent time in the NFL as quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers under Kelly.

 

Since taking over at Ohio State, Day has led the Buckeyes to multiple College Football Playoff appearances and Big Ten championships. His tenure has been marked by strong quarterback development and high-powered offenses. In his first full season as head coach in 2019, Ohio State went undefeated in the regular season and won the Big Ten title.
