Breaking news: On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Ohio State University announced the addition of three experienced coaches to its football staff:

Marcus Johnson, Charlie Dickey, and Wendy Laurent. Marcus Johnson, a former NFL offensive lineman, brings a wealth of coaching experience from his tenure at Purdue, Missouri, and Mississippi State. Charlie Dickey, with a 37-year coaching career, has previously served as the offensive line coach at Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and Utah. Wendy Laurent, a former Penn State offensive lineman, joins the Buckeyes after serving as the associate head coach and tight ends coach at Dartmouth. These strategic hires aim to bolster Ohio State’s coaching depth and enhance player development for the upcoming season.

In addition to these hires, Ohio State has made significant changes to its coaching staff. Matt Patricia, a former NFL coach with extensive experience, has been appointed as the new defensive coordinator. Patricia’s NFL career includes three Super Bowl victories with the New England Patriots and a head coaching tenure with the Detroit Lions. He replaces Jim Knowles, who has taken the defensive coordinator position at Penn State. Brian Hartline, a former Ohio State and NFL wide receiver, has been promoted to offensive coordinator while retaining his role as wide receivers coach. Hartline has been instrumental in developing several first-round NFL draft picks during his coaching career. Additionally, Tyler Bowen has been hired as the offensive line coach and run-game coordinator, bringing experience from his previous role as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Virginia Tech. Tim Walton has been promoted to co-defensive coordinator, and Keenan Bailey has been elevated to co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach. These moves reflect Ohio State’s commitment to strengthening its coaching staff and enhancing player development for the upcoming season.
